Dilligaf, that would be telling. Always keep your cards close to your chest. I think it creates an air of mystery.
I'm not convinced it will stop. What you get with Shelvey is hit or miss. He made several passing cock ups against WBA and repeated them tonight - its just that he got punished tonight. Liverpool obviously saw a defect in his game which is why they sold him. I hope I am proved wrong though. If you made major mistakes like that in your job what would happen? Would you expect to receive extra training to get back up to scratch? Should Jonjo be put in the reserves for a while? Everyone will be holding their breath because they don't know what he is going to do next - that is not good for confidence. We shall see. What I do know is that Laudrup handled the situation brilliantly and he is the right man to solve the enigma that is Jonjo!
Liverpool did indeed part with him due to his inconsistencies, but a game like that last night, should in theory focus his mind, I would like to think that he would learn big time from those blunders, but he has been making a habit of it for some time, just hope he succeeds, otherwise he's going to be too much of a liability for any team! I'm going to say that it will be the making of him....................
At only 21 he's still got his best years ahead of him. How inconsistent was van persi at that age, look at him now! Shelvey still has a lot to learn yet and he is going to be a very important player for us in the future. For now we just have to accept that he is going to make mistakes but be try to be patient with him (I struggle at times myself!). But it will all be worth it.
Its his cross field passes that expose us badly isn't it ? Pablo seems to have cut his level of suicide passing down so im hopeful jonjo will do the same. I don't see it as a flaw in his game exactly I see it as him being a bit naïve more than anything else. He must learn to give the simple pass, he had easy options but chose the wrong ones instead,he will learn that we can actually play in tight spaces and unlike in his Liverpool days we are quite happy to accept an easy short pass. Basically he needs the stevie G part of his game knocked out of him! the irony though was that jonjo out performed stevie in passing stats by quite a way last night ,apparently jonjo was 86% and stevie was 77% it tells me that he can improve massively for us if he keeps working on his short game, which was a big improvement yesterday. Learning when to play it wide is going to be the trick but more than that he needs to learn that our players much prefer it ball to feet, especially with cross field balls, they are far more easy to cut out and you don't need to steal a few extra yards with the ball with our players, they are happy to take it and work it forward. Massive credit to him though, we are evolving as a team and jonjo can be part of it if he keeps that mental strength and passion going, some of the forward runs he made last night were lung bursting and it give Liverpool all sorts of problems . The classic rough Diamond is Jonjo
More like a classic enigma, but now I've calmed down I'm glad this has happened. We've all seen how JJ can pull out a world class pass one minute then give the ball away the next. Hopefully he will tone down the hollywood passes and try and do the simple stuff well. Ki was particularly good at that. The lad has an eye for a pass and will score goals so I'm convinced he will be a big player for us. Laudrup played a blinder. I think the vast majority of managers would have pulled him off for the second half but Laudrup showed huge faith in him and it paid off. A superb bit of man-management imo that Shelvey I'm sure will appreciate.
Shelvey had real bottle to face the cameras at the end of the game. I wonder if he had any sleep last night?
I bet Brenda was thinking he dropped a bollock letting shelvey go at times last night. seeing shelveys potential and character plus goal against them and being now mentored by ML who showed great belief in the lad . Our gain long term if he settles well.
We were all yelling at Ki - Ki is BORING in way he played for Swansea. Shelvey is spectacular! I enjoy the "Hollywood" passes, ofcourse they sometimes fail - the team needs to help getting the ball back. Nobody else in the team has got the combination of creativity and skill that Shelvey has...
I wasn't yelling at Ki. He was played out of position for his entire time here, but he does the simple things elegantly imo. As for Shelvey - I think he should be a little less 'spectacular' after last night. No good being spectacular if you're gifting 2 goals to the opposition. But I've already said he could be a big player for us if he learns from his mistakes.
Great idea!! His back pass was just plain schoolboy error, Ash nearly did one as well, but the crowd warned him and he acknowledged it afterwards. I enjoy the "Hollywood" passes as well. They make the game more exciting, but when you concede as a result of a stray one it makes you wonder. I think it was the fact that it was a raking cross-field ball along the deck that made it easier to cut out. Ash does them out to the right wing (with unerring accuracy in fact) but they're in the air which makes a counter less likely.
Shelvey's pass on the second goal was intercepted in 'Pools half of the field. They then bombed forward and none of our lot made much of an attempt to recover. The ball had to travel the best part of 40 yards mostly on the dribble before the shot that beat Vorm. Plenty of time for the defenders and midfield to recover and regroup. Yes, Shelvey's pass was bad, but what happened thereafter needs to be looked at also. Vorm was beaten not because the shot was that good, but because he biased to the left of his goal in anticipation of the square pass to the 'Pool players that had sprinted forward and were open to his left. 'Pool basically had a 5 v 3 around our box because we didn't track back quickly enough.
"Shelvey's pass on the second goal was intercepted in 'Pools half of the field" Just inside our half, YJ but I take your point. Shelvey could have covered if you look at the replay but didn't do so effectively.
Agree lads that took guts to come out and say he was sorry to the fans. Lets hope he don't play like that on thurs in spain or we could lose the game by his bad passing. If he should play like this again he could find himself being subbed off , from what Ive seen from last weeks game we could come away from Valencia with a win as they played shut, but they are home and could play a lot better. any one know what team we could but out, from what I saw last nt we could have won the game .
