I too believe that Mick will get it right come the summer. It will be a team with a solid spine down the middle and effective wingers supplying the ammo. JWM is right that the teams who can mix it up normally find themselves towards the top of the table. There have been teams promoted playing great football but there have also been teams who just straight up fought for their points with solid, hard to beat displays. We're not really in the position to start asking to see expansive football given our current state and I can understand why we haven't pushed the boat out in terms of spending cash on permanent players until we know where we will be playing next season. I do expect to see more movement in the transfer market and less loanees next season though. With a full pre-season and the likes of Taylor returning I think we will see better football being played when we aren't fighting for our lives and scrapping for every available point.
All very valid points made but I doubt that we will ever see flair, expansive football under Mick, it's just not his style!! But that being the case I know he will do well here because he's a good manager but my personal preference is just to see something a bit more pleasing on the eye!!
For all we know, and if we're to believe some reports, Mick is off to coach Eire in the summer. Forget about top half for this season, sod pretty football, keep us in the division and we'll see where we are in the summer. What Mick has done is bring the basics in. I agree his best achievement is a solid backline. Don't make me laugh about Chopra though, he's mugging us! Mick knows this which is why he's not been involved much.
I meant being in the top half for the majority of next season Hampy, not this, we all know what needs to be done between now and May. I think we would all be happy finishing 21st in this campaign.
Blimey Weighty you must have plenty of time on your hands to trawl through old threads and drag this stuff back up! it makes me feel a wee bit nostalgic! Just like you and the Inkerman!
