Not trying to be contrary for the sake of it but which of the new signings do you think are genuine class? I'd say the vast vast majority of SR'S signings have been awful, I'm sure we all agree but there's still been some gems i.e Alcaraz and Fernandes. Which of the 9 signed this summer do you see any of the bigger clubs fancying? Because I'd argue strongly rather than desperately trying to keep them, we're going to struggle to get rid. Maybe some lower Prem Micky Mouse outfit like Burnley might be interested in Fellows, but apart from him? It's not too early anymore. Its fair to say they're ****e Edit- meant to add that obviously our club needs to take some gambles, but once again they've tried to be too clever with essential positions
It is fair to say you have no clue about football then. Jander is a very good player. Quarshie is a German U21 who will be a top player in the future. Scienza was already playing in the top tier of German football before we signed him. Fellows is quality. Azaz has the pedigree and will come good. What we don’t have this time around are cheat codes like KWP, Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams. I honestly cannot believe how delusional some of you lot are. Our squad has some young talent you can get behind, if you like, or you can spend the year moaning that we should be winning everything. (Hint: we shouldn’t)
Can you not see how contradictory that statement is? Apparently we've got a very good player, a top player in the future, players with pedigree and quality and experience of top European leagues. Lots of young "talent" Don't expect to win though, because we're little old Southampton and we're playing giants like Derby ****ing County. Reign those expectations right in. Nothing wrong with languishing in the Championship for years.
It isn’t contradictory at all. Most of these players are just working their way into a new side in a new league in a new country. Being a talent is one thing but being a settled talent is another. This season is a huge reset. And who says I don’t expect to win? Look at my six game predictions! But I watched the game and am honest about Derby being very good, and we all know if Stewart stayed fit we would have won. The vitriol towards our own players is disgusting. We already have young Downs removing himself from social media due to all the abuse. Fans need to grow up.
Oh no. Not abuse. Imagine how that must feel (just like every single teacher, social worker, police officer and nurse on a tiny fraction of the wages) That's beside the point though. There's still this ridiculous dell like mentality in our fan base, who'll politely applaud this ****e and have excuses ready. When we were getting dicked by the entire league last season those same fans made the comparison that of course we lost, we're playing against clubs with bigger budgets, better players etc. It was argued it couldn't possibly be helped. Now we're the bigger fish and all of a sudden thats no longer the case? Now it's not about money and squads?
I'm not sure there is actually anyone out there expecting anything like this. I've already stated not so long ago that I don't even care about being promoted this season. Regarding supporting the players; I was about the only person on this forum defending Dibling during the second half of last season, when everyone else was slating him. I'll pick and choose who I criticise and who I celebrate, based on their perfromances, and that alone. I always defended Bednarek when everyone else wanted him gone. I don't have any sort of agenda, and if you check the Liverpool thread (and Boro I think too), you'll see I said positive things about Quarshie. I want nothing more than for our new signings to all be brilliant. But if I think the team's performances are suffering because of new signings (or any other player), then I will call them out. I agree with you about the more established bed-wetters being OTT though. But that's nothing new. No point engaging with it.
It’s ridiculous how fans are now bemoaning the fact that we are in a league that is competitive and anyone can beat anyone with good honest football. But, but, but we should win every game! It’s the others that should have good tight matches. look at the results this week, almost every game 1-1 or a one goal margin. I think it’s great.
You must feel a lot of confidence in your views if you have to ignore everything I said and respond to your own grievances instead, mate.
And we all have a right to our opinion. But stating any young footballer will never amount to anything is pretty low.
congratulations, you selected the outlier and ignored everything else. Presumably Coventry have signed lots of top quality players that you have heard of, have the best ownership in the league and a fan base that rages, cries and stamps their feet when they don’t win the league every week. That’s the recipe right?
Coventry are the outlier by a mile. Settled squad, settled (good) manager. As I said before, look at the new Liverpool players. Bar Ekitike, all really struggling despite costing a billionty pounds. It's not all that easy. The outliers are those that settle really quickly (like Jander has done).
Coventry have had the benefit of continuity of a settled manager after a good season last time, who knows? that may be us winning by 3 or 4 goals like we were under Martin after a couple of months building a new team two years ago.
Maybe my words were spiteful at the time - because I wanted three points today or at least a good performance - but I totally stand by it, 100%. I just can't see him ever making it. I have nothing against him, no reason at all to wish him bad. I'm not some mong on social media sending him abuse. If he proves me wrong then I will love it (in a Saints shirt anyway). But we have released academy players who showed far, far more potential than Downs has. And if they aren't/weren't going to make it, then I can't see him doing so either.
Broken record time; I'd rather we have given Ballard a proper chance than spend £7m on a Downs. Literally would not have done any worse.
But presumably a coach like Poch has seen enough about him to pick him for the USA national team. I think he has struggled to settle and the social media stuff hasn't helped but it's a bit early to write him off completely imo.
Imagine moving to a new country, having a couple of appearances, going on social media to find out the local fans want you to **** off and never play again. What a confidence boost!
Another 4ft tall striker who is nowhere near as good as our two other 4ft tall strikers. Not sure that would be too helpful.
I think this is the path Will Still is following. No complaints from me this season other than we still have a toothless front line. I think that Downs is downgrade on Mara. Cannot see him coming good at this level.
