i also wonder though, when a club has such a bad season like southampton did last year
how much of a general malaise and general fear there is amongst the players and around the club

Probably plays a part to a degree but we had an even worse season than them last year in terms of expectations and a chaotic summer this season yet Jakirović has got them playing exciting, positive football and is getting the best out of players like Giles who a lot of us wanted to see the back of.

It’s not so much the possession aspect but the rigid adherence to positionism. When we beat Southampton at home this season, they dominated possession and you could see patterns of play and some nice passing sequences that were easy on the eye but there was nobody willing to take a risk in the final third. All fart, no ****. City on the other hand hit them on the counter when possible and that’s why we won 3-1.

If a team is instructed to play meticulous football where nobody has freedom to take risks for fear of losing the ball then football just becomes a boring game.

That certainly seemed one of their poorer games for the season as in most games they created close to 2 xG.

So you were wrong.

It was an offhand comment in a thread about Southampton, you've somehow turned it into a huge discussion.

Still had good stats without the results. The end.
As is oft said, it's a results based business. He's failed miserably and imo it serves them right for making such a ridiculous appointment.

Not sure it was any more ridiculous than Jakirovic. One worked one didn't. He'd been managing in the top league in France. Sunderland appointed their manager from similar waters and that went OK.

Their manager now is doing much worse with the same group.
and maybe it was another equally stupid appointment?
It's like they haven't learnt!
It's odd as they had 4 straight wins on the bounce after he was appointed start of November (including 5-1 away at Charlton, 3-0 home to Leicester). They have the players. It's like they've had a bounce then thought, **** me, another 32 year old idiot thinks he knows it all. Hopefully their current poor form continues for the rest of January at least.
