Who are the Cowley brothers? Sounds like something you’d hear in a western about some cattle rustlers
I do agree though that I think it’s unlikely Still makes 3 years. Either we don’t go up and he moves on (or is moved on). Or we go up and he leaves during the following season or the end of it to someone the next level up (Poch, Koenan for example)
All managerial appointments are gambles. I believe guarantees are for washing machines or something. I feel happy enough with the manger, I have grave concerns about the club that he's working for and the squad he will inherit. Recent history shows that we will be stuck with the same dross that we havent been able to sell for the last few years. This is a young manager who would not have been struggling for job offers and they've somehow convinced him to come and manage one of the worst clubs in the football league. If they Sporrs and co can now move anything other than our proven quality players I might just believe that he is the man to lead us forwards.
Now that he's our manager, I'd suggest it's time we stop the name puns and show some more respect by using his full name: William Stilliam
What’s the expectation for the coaching team? I think someone said that his brothers won’t be joining us. Are Rusk & Lallana going to be offered to stay?
Taken from Henry Winters column…. Let’s face it…. There’s enough fools knocking around at St Mary’s, so could be an interesting first few weeks..!!!
I'm assuming that Rusk won't be part of the coaching team. But Lallana is an intriguing one. His contract is expiring, but there's no indication yet on whether he'll retire from playing. Does he want to move into full-time coaching, or continue a player-coach hybrid role, or maybe do something different? And if he does want to remain in coaching (full-time or part-time), would Still be happy for him to be part of his staff?
I thought in some of the earlier tweets said that he had reached a verbal agreement but the club had to negotiate with Lens for his backroom staff.
Can't see Lallana not retiring. Not arsed whether he stays or not. Rusk should try and get a L2 managers job or something.
Lallana can’t run. His body can’t cope. He didn’t really want to play this season and barely has for months. Other than stealing a higher wage than he’d get coaching, which is pretty much what he did this season, I can’t see why he wouldn’t retire from playing now. Could see him moving to a coaching role somewhere in the youth setup. His son is in our academy somewhere isn’t he?
Like others have said, his legs have gone and doesn’t look like he can play at any significant level now. If he can work with Still and visa versa then it could potentially be a very good combination for us. Lallana has that experience of being a top player, which Will doesn’t
24 May 2025 187 Comments Will Still is expected to be announced on Sunday as Southampton's new manager. The 32-year-old Englishman revealed last weekend he was leaving French club Lens to return to the UK. Multiple sources have told BBC Sport that Still is set to be in the stands at St Mary's for bottom club Southampton's final Premier League game of the season against Arsenal on Sunday. He is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Saints, who will return to the Championship next season after their relegation. Still's appointment has been complicated by negotiations around making his brothers, Nicolas and Edward, part of his backroom staff and releasing him from his contract at Ligue 1 Lens, which runs until 2027. However, Saints are confident they have found a breakthrough in talks.
