It'll benefit him training with us as he could pick up "tricks" off of Ledley/ Gallas & co but what's the point of getting the training when he won't be able to put into practice on the pitch on a regular basis? Cup games aren't beneficial for a player like him now. He's tasted the highest level, why would he benefit from playing Carling/ FA Cup games when he can get that plus frequent league games out on loan. He's currently at a team that plays very similar to us and he's involved in that every weekend. If he were to come back next season, he'll presumably be in a similar position to what Bassong has been in this year, in no way whatsoever will that benefit him. I'd rather keep Nelsen around for that role and let Caulker gain more valuable experience on loan. He'll be going from Prem regular to a bit part player, it should be the other way round.
I keep forgetting Khumalo exists, which says a lot - especially about his prospects of lasting the summer... With the expectation of Nelson and Bassong leaving in the next window, it's more likely we'll bring in a young centre back to develop over a season or two with one eye on the future - which is what we intended to do with Kaboul (before injuries saw him thrown in at the deep end, followed by Ramos selling him prematurely) - and we've been linked with a few (Mamadou Sakho of PSG, Bruno Uvini of Sao Paolo, Ezekiel Fryers of MUPLC, Marc Bartra of Barca), so we have players ready to step into the team\ when King and Gallas retire/leave.
Never knew we were linked with Sakho. Very good defender in my opinon, would cost a bomb though I reckon. Captained PSG when he was 17 I think I read.
I thought you were talking about 10/15 league games next season, which will be plenty. Don't forget that King will be saved for the CL(hopefully) and Gallas will not stay fit all season so Dawson, Kaboul and Caulker will be shouldering most of the league games between them.
