I reckon Utd will give Maureen one more year before trying to bring in Pochettinho, and along with him probably Alli, Kane or Dier.

Meh ... You know what they are like. If it's not working out they will start again. Maureen is due another meltdown sooner or later and Utd will be looking for a refresh. Unless Pooch has a ****e season (which could happen with the Wembley factor) then they'll be sniffing around.

If Conte f***s up and gets Chelsea relegated and gets knocked out of the CL at the group stages after losing to Lokomotiv ****fest will he be sacked?
    Diego Costa reckons he will

Poch is probably hoping we come calling at some point, everybody has to have a dream and Spurs are a great steppingstone for him to cut his teeth at.

I expect he'll be sacked if we miss the CL. That's been the pattern the last few years.

Both Moyes and LVG were sacked as soon as it became mathematically impossible to reach 4th. LVG got one more game as it was the FA Cup final, but the decision to bin him was obviously made after the last day of the PL season.

We're in a position now where we have huge financial power, but it appears even more dependent on the CL than ever. IIRC there are clauses in both the adidas and Chevrolet contracts which massively cut our payments if we finish outside the CL two seasons in a row. Which means any manager who misses out on the CL is out the door as the board won't want to risk it happening again.

As for expectations, well we've spent £250m since Mourinho took over. Whilst City have spent £300m and Chelsea have spent £200m. So imo the expectation should be that we will be competing with those two in the top three. If we're scrapping for fourth spot instead then questions will be asked, unless it's masked by a strong European run anyway.

    I agree
You really should be up here competing for the title now, and I think you will be.
Most people had United down as title contenders last season, and it didn't really pan out.
Though I think Jose would have made more of an effort to grab a top 4 spot, especially in the last 6 games or so, if you hadn't had that Europa League run.

I think Mourinho is one of those managers who, unless he thinks he can win the title, he will always focus on the trophies more than the league position. I don't think he expected to be challenging for the title last season, despite the comments of the pundits etc. If you'd offered him the LC, EL and finishing in 10th place before last season started I think he'd have taken it, so finishing 6th instead of 4th, or even 2nd or 3rd, makes no odds to him. CL qualification plus two trophies in the cabinet = job done for his first season.

Now he's had a full season and two summer transfer windows, the expectation has to be higher. We have a squad which is good enough to compete for the title, maybe short of being favourites to win it given how much more City and Chelsea have spent this summer. But a lot will depend on how the new signings fit in for each team, so certainly I'd expect full focus on the league this season, as if we can sort out our attack and get a regular supply of goals then we should definitely be up there competing.

    Yup, this ^^

If Costa goes, which looks likely, then our season may depend on how well Morata adapts to the PL.
Ditto with Lukaku at United, if he hits the ground running for you guys, then its game on.
City have made in roads in fixing their pretty ****ty defence too, so if their signings work out, then we may face an awesome three way battle.
Liverpool and Spurs have not really improved their sides and Spurs no longer have WHL. So I think both stand a real chance of falling out the top 4.
Arsenal, same with the striker situations at United and Chelsea, if he can grab 20 goals this season, Arsenal should be able to get back in the top 4.

I dont think we can discount Everton though, they have made a lot of signings.
If they get Giroud to replace Lukaku, then they may be dark horses for a top 4 finish

Maybe, but people said that last season as well. What with Guardiola and Mourinho joining and City and Utd both spending £150m plus whilst Chelsea had no Europe to contend with people were hoping for a three way battle. But Utd ended up being pretty poor, and City ended up being even worse!

I reckon only two of those three sides will actually click and compete for the title, the other will trail in a fairly distant third. 4th spot probably Arsenal or Liverpool, I think Spurs will be weaker and maybe a season too soon for Everton. If I had to predict:

    1. City
    2. Utd
    3. Chelsea
    4. Arsenal
    5. Liverpool
    6. Spurs
    7. Everton

Depending on how close we get to City, I'd say that's a successful season given how our last four have panned out.
