He has played well this season and despite making some errors he hasn't been the only one. Player of the season would be a bit too far though, as things stand I think it will go to Quinn, Elmo or Brady as an outside shout.
McShane has by far been our best defender this season and if he keeps it up till the end he'll have my vote for player of the year. Chester has been well below his best so far and i think it's down to these contract negotiations not being finished. Either his head has been turned towards a premier league club or he isn't being given the terms he wants. Hobbs has been ok when he's played but also nothing special. Faye and Bruce are about even, Faye gets knackered and Bruce gets injured every game.
McShane's best is still nowhere near a sub-par Chester though. This is my point. McShane is being lauded for doing the very minimum a defender should do... Not **** up. And even then, if you just watch him you can see that he gets found out about 8-10 times each game... He just has the players around him that mean we can get away with it more often.
With me and McShane it's more the opposite. The fact that after a bad game nothing is said and then the next game if he does OK it's all "He's been brilliant all season and anyone who doesn't see it is blind" is what pisses me off. I really wish some of the players I criticise would come good cos then we'd be going up but I just find comments like Glennon's above particularly irritating. This is the guy who told me for months that Brady was ****, League 2 bla bla yet he's saying people who don't like McShane are blind... I remember a friendly at Ferriby either last summer or the year before where Macca and Hobbs played together at CB and they kept lumping it long and high and it was like watching a pub defender next to John Terry comparing the way the two of them dealt with these high balls, Hobbs just got under it and cleared it every time and McShane was running round in circles every time trying to get somewhere near it before ending up with the ball behind him and heading it the wrong way and then looking round to see where it had gone. That sums him up really, he's a trier but he lacks composure and ability basically. There are players in our team like Simpson at the moment (or Amos a few months ago) who are scapegoats whenever we lose and people talk about them being 'League 1 at best.' yet people who really do lack ability are being touted for player of the year. It's just the trends of bashing certain players and bumming others that I don't like.
The thought just struck me,why are we arguing about who is a good defender, and who is'nt ? We have a bloody good defence, and that's something we can all agree on. Agree on...us lot
It wasn't particularly aimed at you, but seen as you've bitten . McShane hasn't had a bad game this season, either that or you're an exceptionally poor judge of a player? What is it? I agree with you on Simpson, but Amos was ****ing rubbish. I saw more goalkeeping ability in Gulacsi. Thankfully our management saw the same, although it was a flimsy disguise of dressing it up as 'Recall' - A recall to do what? Clean the ****ters? He's got **** all chance of getting near the first team. I have subsequently said Brady has surprised me and played very well at LWB, it's a shame you aren't man enough to do the same regarding McShane. At least your opinion is only that, a pointless opinion. Within the ranks of the club, they see a decent footballer, which is why he is likely to earn another contract!
It's not about being man enough to admit anything. There's no denial here. McShane consistently defends poorly and ISTPLT is right about scapegoats. I'd say McShane has had plenty of bad games... every game where he lets the ball bounce at least once rather than clearing it is a bad game for a defender. He does this consistently. Every game where he gets turned more than twice is a bad game for a defender. You put him in the middle of the three CBs or we go 442 and you'll see how much more costly he is. To tout him for player of the year when people like Meyler, Koren, Simpson and even Chester to a degree are getting slated is madness. People slag off Simpson because of his lack of goals. He's not doing his job apparently, despite his hold up play. You can say the same for McShane tenfold in every game but it goes unnoticed. He doesn't clear air balls, he ends up on the wrong side of the defender, he gets turned, he's inconsistent. You don't want your CB doing anything like the above but he does every single game and because he rarely gets punished for it in this system he's suddenly our best larker to some people.
All the defence has done well and at the same time they have all made mistakes, some are quicker, better tacklers/headers ect but they all seem to compliment each other well. It should be the forwards were debating because i cannot remember the last time one scored in the league
I am sorry but if you think Mcshane is a top player you are completely and utterly wrong. I am sorry but his positioning is awful, it really is, he gets turned multiple times a game, CMS did it time and time again, something that doesn't happen to Chester. You can't even compare him to Chester, some of the cross field balls Chester plays are a different class. Mcshane hasn't made as many errors, but why should he win MOTMs award and Player of the year awards for that. His positioning is very poor, the issue is he doesn't seem to have any clue where he should be. The fact Hobbs was out of the team for a while and he was in is a disappointment. I have changed my mind on him, he is good enough to play at this level for an average Championship team, where as before he wasn't, however we are trying to win promotion and he is nowhere near good enough to play for a promotion chasing team.
Specsavers have great offers on at the moment, get yourselves down, they might even have a volume discount.
Well I've been to most games home and away this year and I'll admit that at the start of the the season, when he moved his way into the side I wasn't happy. But he's happily proven me wrong this season, I think it's because he's a defender; it's harder for them to stand out. I'd say he's been as good as Chester this season, if not better for the last 6 games. He looks a lot more confident on the ball, he's clearly been working on concentration and his passing is better. I remember somebody on here spoke to him and apparently he had received some quiet but alarming criticism and took it on board; you can't fault him for that because it's what everybody wanted him to do. People need a scapegoat, they always have at this club. He's more than done enough for a contract and he'd be a good cover player in the PL.
SO clearly we seem to have our own WUM champion in TWF. This thread did make me laugh granted. The guy has an average game with no cock ups and he gets man of the match... That's how bad he normally is. That's how low expectation is when it comes to his performances. hahahaha Player of the year cannot go to a guy who's played so few games anyhow.
I there was an award for most improved player then Mcshane would get it this season. however, Elmo should get player of the year for performances so far this season.
