Chris and Kev--This is not about Malky now being in a position where he can say "give me a bigger transfer budget and/or a higher salary and I will stay"...The club cannot afford to do either, and certainly not match any budget Cardiff can propose. And Chris-- we can't expect that if Malky is simply refused the opportunity to move then he would resign. He would be breaking his contract, setting the scene for expensive legal battles that would be in no ones interests. But who would want a reluctant manager? If he wants to go then he will be allowed to go. The best outcome we can hope for is that Malky turns down Cardiff because he wants to stay, appreciating that he can still progress his career here. The most likely outcome is that he will move, because he thinks he can progress his career better at Cardiff. Hopefully we will get a few hundred thousand in compensation, and make a quick new appointment--but please Mr B. take advice on this! Discuss it with the board BEFORE you make anyone an offer!
Just had a look back to see what Malky had to say when he signed his new contract. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...fcnews/8890538.Hornets_manager_pens_new_deal/ According to this report, nothing.
This seems a bit to familiar to the BR situation to me. I hope that MM will stay but am slowly getting a sinking feeling that he will bo going. I hope I am wrong though! I think that by refusing to let Cardiff speak to MM, we are sending a message that he is needed and wanted by the board. Like others have said already, one way or another, I want this resolved asap so we can plan the season ahead.
The trouble is fight what? If Malky has had his head turned then his future at Watford is unsustainable. If Malky wants to stay, then "the board" (not sure who is on it?) can tell Cardiff to go away. It really isn't too difficult, surely Baz knows what Malky wants to do, and surely Malky has read the news, so everyone is informed. It's a straight decision, IMO if Malky wants to talk to Cardiff then you have to let him. Agreeing compensation wont be too hard.
Err I don't follow that. Rodgers screwed up when he said "don't question my integrity", whereas Malky has said nothing. If Malky accepts Cardiff's offer then ok he goes with my blessing as long as the compensation is paid etc.
He was an honourable man ,and as such would have seen out a bit more of that contract ,although I dont blame him for jumping ship, He was integral in our hopes of staying up! He leaves at this stage ,were in deep doggy doo with a clueless owner(at best)! 40 odd years of being a horn and I feel we are hitting a serious low point! I wonder if we should have bitten the bullet that fateful xmas and gone into admin! we may have been better off!!!
Its strange when we look back at our recent history. In the last decade we have had 2 spells in the much vaunted Premier League, yet when I look at the stadium I look at a mess. This latest on field saga threatens our future at this level. We think the 2nd level is now our level but the way Malky has been "sneered at" by so many indicates to me how far we have fallen. As for Dec 09 and Admin - Jimmy Russo has already made it clear the club was never going to go into Admin as the only serious creditor was (and still is) Ashcroft. Hornette - lovely sweet thoughts about buying the club if you win the lottery. How much would you put in, and how much would you want to put in? And 2 years later when the fans are asking for more cash?
Thats it then lads Mackay on his way down the M4, good luck in finding a good replacement, and the banter has been quite good even though some have a problem with the Welsh clubs. Well maybe by next season we will have 2 clubs in the England and Wales Premier league.
It is worse. Rodgers was just a fool - to make a comment like that - other than that he joined his "natural" club Malky signed a 3 year contract a couple of months ago with the new owner in full possession of the facts - if he now goes he will have shown he was cynically using Watford for his own ends - some may say fair enough as clubs are not always honest either but it does not get away from the fact that if he has integrity he will stay and honour what he has just signed. Malky has no links with Cardiff at all
I believe that what we are seeing at Watford is a reflection of what is happening to professional football in the UK, and that is a lack of stability. Gone are the days when a family such as the Walkers at Wolves, the Cobbolds at Ipswich, or even Elton at Watford provided a degree of continuity. Today fan's want instant success as do the money men who have moved in. A good team for the fans will provide a source of income for the sharks. It is when the promotion doesn't arrive that things turn nasty. The owners wonder if they have made such a good investment and want a new management that will restore the money they have seen disappear down the drain. Even the mega rich owners have attempted to reign in the excessive amounts they have been asked to fork out each year. Unless Mr B gets his act together by listening to and taking good advice that I am sure is within the club, he will suddenly find that he has joined the list of failed football club owners. What that would mean for the fans is not pleasant to think about at this moment.
Well according to Talksport and ITV sport Malky has resigned, but i can not confirm or deny this as its not reported anywhere else. If it is true, its a big blow for watford football club.
http://twitter.com/#!/BBCSport are saying Watford have given permission for Cardiff to speak to MM....
It's all over Twitter - Wobby, John Marks, BBC 3CR all saying Watford have given Cardiff permission... Richard Walker (Watford's communication manager) has confirmed it also!! Now it's down to whether Cardiff can sell it to Malky! How will people feel if Malky decides he doesn't want the job... or if he does, but Cardiff aren't impressed with him??
was gutted when i thought he'd resigned, though resigned to him going...but Kev, i'd be very happy if they didn't want him. What's not to want though?
