We are fickle, I cant see any argument against the idea to be honest. You read forums like this and everyone of us will go from 'we are totally **** to we are worthy of a play off spot' on a game to game basis.
We all think we know better than the manager, who sees his players everyday in training and has scouting parties watching the next opponents but think our 11 based on what we see or dont see for 90 minutes a fortnight and without taking the opposition into account is the best.
Ive been slating Chopra for 90% of the season yet in the past 4 matches he looks to have come alive. Whether it is confidence or the fact he has got over his off the field problems I dont know but he wouldnt have got the chance in our first 11 under me.
We say Jewell was forced into this starting line up but that is not true at all. He was forced to change the central midfield 2 but could easily have stuck with a 442, whether flat or a diamond. We had Scotland, Ellington, JET. Chopra and Murphy who could play up front. Murphy, Martin, JET and Carson who could play wide.
For me, Jewell has done an OK job. Our attack play is now exciting but our defence is still suspect. A new RB, CB and an addition to the squad for midfield competionn for Drury and Hyam are need for a decent campaign next season. Could he be our best manager of the last 15 years - YES but it will take more than one decent run of form to get there.

    Stop bloody whinging!!

We won four games on the trot what more do you want?

The fans are magnificent and have endured total and utter crap for the best part of a decade. So now we are playing good football, scoring bagloads of goals, getting some consistency in the starting line up and rolling over sides near the top of the table you want us to react how exactly?!

all football fans can be fickle to be honest.

you've hit some form of late but in truth jewell is still some way short of being a decent manager in my opinion and i really don't think he'll be your gaffer come august.

While i believe Jewell has his limitations, Its Clegg that puts the pressure on any manager by his ****wit ramblings of promotion in 2 years, this then has an effect of the type of signings that PJ goes for, almost looking at the quick fix rather then building for the future. Get rid of Cleggy and we will have a chance, stay with him and he will **** us up for a long long time.

do you think jewell will be there next season guru? i didn't get the feeling they really pushed the boat out for him to sign the players he wanted. ok, the pompey three didn't really want to go to ipswich but thats an error of judgement on the managers behalf as well as clegg and its poor scouting too. i reckon clegg and jewell will be gone in the summer and you'll be starting a fresh once again <ok>

I do believe PJ will be here next season, wether Clogg will is another issue. What needs to be addresses is getting rid of the wasters on big money i.e. Leadtwat and bringing in hungry young players which i think that PJ has seen is the way to go. But it always then fall down with the Clogg issue when he meets them to talk about contracts.

I reckon it could be a fairly busy summer but not a mad one.
The first 11 is near enough. A RB and arguably a GK & CB are required to sort out a decent starting line up. Im happy with ALB but I know he has his critics. Other than that it is just adding to squad strength.
New GK and CB will be required regardless of first team or back up status
Another defensive minded or comfortable sitting central midfielder and possibly a striker. We may well bring in Murphy on a long term deal but that wont cause any upheaval.

I think Jewell will be here for a few years tbh. I think ME realises that he needs time to turn it around and with hindsight probably now regrets sacking Magilton for finishing 9th. I genuinely think it will take alot for Jewell to get the sack unless we have another really bad run of form next season and finish in the bottom half, which I don't think will happen.

I think we still need quite a large amount of players in the summer tbh, although as tractorbhoy points out I think 2 CB's, RB and GK are the only one's we must definitely strenghten. They are the priorities but I think we could still do with another DM and at least one more winger (even if Murphy signs), also at least 1 striker. Although we want to strike a balance this season unlike the previous few where we have some sort of continuity and not go completely overboard with new players and old one's leaving.

all depends on who is let go in the summer. Say we lose Edwards, Leadtwat, Scotland, Delaney & Murphy we are then looking at getting in at the very least 1x GK,2x RB, 2x CB, 1x CM, 1x LW & 1x CF. Thats a hell of a turn around again in players!
