You're right mate, I simply don't believe West Ham are willing to pay Colback that kind of money.

If they do then they'll have a very tough summer trying to negotiate with other prospective signings.

50k a week? <laugh> See you Jack. For 50k a week in wages could attract a way way way better player. West Ham would be a dreadful move too. He's a proper footballer, being bypassed while they play direct with wingers just won't suit his attributes. He's not attacking enough to go box to box, Bet Sam will play him DM. <laugh> He'll only be selling himself out.

Canny lad and would love him to start but not at that wage. He isn't a £50k a week footballer in any shape or form. He owes us nothing and us him.

He'd be a mug to turn that sort of money down tbh so I wish him well and offer my best wishes. He will get a tremendous reception on his return.

If we pay him 50k a week, I will kill someone.

That someone would be whoever signed it off.

We should offer him 30k, take or leave.

He's bluffing mate, he's from the NE and has a young family here, he won't go.

He's liked at the SOL, the supporters have been incredibly patient with him and Poyet looks like he means business.

But, way more important is the fact that people in Capital City won't be so tolerant of a ginge as they are in the friendly backwaters of the NE. Think on Jack son, nowt good can come of gannin' down there.

Jack Colback set to be offered £10m deal by West Ham with midfielder set for Sunderland exit
Midfielder out of contract at the Stadium of Light and set to leave
Colback set for bumper pay rise after being paid £6,000-a-week
Deal at West Ham could be worth up to £50,000-a-week for 24-year-old

West Ham have put together a £10 million package to land the Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback.
Colback sees his contract at the Stadium of Light run out this summer and the 24-year-old has sparked a Premier League chase between Newcastle, Swansea and the Hammers.
Newcastle believed they were favourites to land the Geordie at the end of last season, with the player privately ready to make the controversial switch to St James' Park.
On the move: Jack Colback is set to leave Sunderland this summer with West Ham leading the race
He was one of the worst paid players at Sunderland last season on around £6,000-a-week, having come through the ranks.
That alerted their North-east rivals, who were keen to push through a quick deal at the start of the summer.
However West Ham have blown their rivals out of the water by putting together a four-year deal that will rocket Colback's salary up to £50,000-a-week.

The whole package will cost around £10 million but Hammers' bosses believe that is off-set by the fact they won't have to pay a fee for a player who has been at Sunderland since he was a youngster.
Colback has emerged as a key player at Sunderland over the last three seasons, playing over 100 times in the Premier League for a succession of managers, from Steve Bruce, Martin O'Neill, Paolo di Canio through to Gus Poyet.
Poyet was eager to keep the English player this summer, but the club does not have the financial muscle to see off West Ham.

From a West Ham Fanzine

West Ham’s attempts to snatch Jack Colback out of the arms of Newcastle have bitten the dust.

The Sunderland Echo revealed yesterday the Hammers had made the defensive midfielder a £50,000 a week offer and that was likely to put the Magpies out of the running.

Colback had in fact been expected to join Newcastle for several weeks but the Irons moved heaven and earth to find a way of bringing him to Upton Park after he had signed a pre-contract with Newcastle..

They had hoped they could find a way to resolve the difficulties but it proved impossible.

A Hammers insider told us exclusively: “We did our best but sadly there’s no way out of the contract he signed. He was keen to join West Ham.”

As ClaretandHugh reported yesterday (Fri) the Irons have been talking to both Colback and Gareth Barry as they bid to fill to strengthen the left sided midfield position.

Talks with Manchester City’s former England star may now be intensified.

Both him and Seb are free agents in a month. The longer it goes that they don't sign then the less likely it is. They had talks over a week ago. Nothing said, I expect both to leave.

Colback to the Mags? Seems ridiculous so I'll go with that.

I think he'll end up at the Mags, I hope they pay over the top for him too, much like west ham were willing to. What will make me angry is if he moves for a reasonable wage. Then we know he was always going to leave so should have done us the honour of telling us straight.
