'Just listened to PB's remarks on the Saturdays performance and although I am not one of his greatest believers, he is still saying the right things.' Rhinestone and Gastro.........I see where you're coming from and I really hope you are right and I am wrong However I've worked with, and appointed, too many people who 'say the right things'! The only thing that matters is what happens on the pitch, though that is influenced by what happens off it. I have not seen, or heard of, anything which leads me to believe things will improve.
Having said much the same on the other thread, I agree he may now sort things out. At least I hope so
P49 - I know - I am of the old school as well, I have heard so much about some people and how good they are - until you ask them to actually do the job you employed them for. I wouldn't tar all the young with the same brush but most people from about 40 ish and under don't know what it was like in the old days - before CV's - where you can put down what you like and you don't have to prove it! Most of us "old uns" remember when references actually meant something! I hope I am wrong about PB, I don't want to be right and I will gladly eat humble pie if it all comes together .... I just don't know how long it/we can give him until he gets it right! I just hope he's a quick learner! "I have not seen, or heard of, anything which leads me to believe things will improve" - unfortunately nor have I!
You can't blame the back four for Saturday's goals. Heslop shrugged off four weak challenges before putting Constable through. The second followed another unchallenged run through the centre, a dangerous ball and Anthony giving away the penalty. The third, another unchallenged run through the middle. Last week, Mohamed went on another long run through the middle. We're not defending well enough from the front and the centre of our midfield looks poor without Gill in there.
Gastro - do you think that is because the two wide players aren't helping defend as a unit - thus leaving the centre of mid open and vulnerable? Or do you think that the two centre mid just ain't good enough? I agree with the Gill remark - at first I didn't rate him, but in the second half at Bradford I realised just how much we miss him!
My worries stem not only from the performances on the field, but the disquiet being caused off it. I can't go into details but there is some truth in the reports that players have been asked to distance themselves from KB; and whilst Buckle has stressed that he wants the WHOLE club singing from the same hymn sheet and pulling together he has not spoken with certain key departments since his arrival and has upset others. What he says may make sense but he lacks the inter-personal skills to carry it through. In a small and 'poor' club like ours where working relationships matter and many do over and above for the club the presence of such as Buckle could be catastrophic. I'm genuinely worried about the welfare of the whole club.
The welfare of this club has been on the line for many a year Pirate. I have heard the fans now a days are no where near the same as even so much as 20 years ago. The harsh reality is that we are all bored of poor football now and I fear fans walking away wont be coming back for some time, if ever. My father walked away after having a child (poor sod!), and has not returned since, so I suppose once you leave and distance yourself from the club for a long period of time, its that much easier to stay away for good, though he is still a gashead at heart. Its easier to sit at home and learn that Rovers got beat YET AGAIN than it is to be subjected to such performances for 90 mins at 20 quid a pop week in week out.
would a manager and squad visit to lourdes be in order if fridays result does not go gas's way. miracles do occur especially if the patron saint of crap management and pitches is with you. i refer to saintly st matty h
Time. Please give the man time. I reiterate a previous post I made........ 'Great appointment, a good young ambitious manager, who appears to know his own mind. I think he will do well rebuilding the squad, but don't expect miracles this season and I see no return to League one this time around. We need to set the foundations in place and start our new chapter with patience and not blind optimism (it only leads to dissapointment). This season is all about resurrecting the phoenix from the barely smouldering ashes of a disasterous season last time around, Paul Buckle needs to start fanning that smouldering pile very soon. This season is about assembling as good a squad as we can, to review our youth policy and see what we have, to start producing our conveyor belt of talented strikers that we will inevitably have to sell on but hopefully for a handsome fee. This season is about learning how to play the game in the right way again with passion, pride and fight. This season is about the board learning to tell us the truth and if the truth is we're skint, the ground refurb is a non-starter, the wage bill is zero, the losses we are amassing are untenable then so be it but please don't mug your loyal fans for fools. This season is about the fans getting behind this fantastic club with it's rich history, uniqueness and quirky ways, remembering why they endure those seasons of pain for those fleeting moments of success and how sweet they taste because of their rarity. If we can get all this right this season who knows what future seasons hold, I for one see a tiny glimmer, the slightest flicker, of hope.................' That's this issue with football in general lately impatient twats who want to boo and blame at every opportunity. We're not world beaters never will be, we are a club struggling to survive like every other lower league club. Be thankful you still have a club to support, support it well and it's incumbant manager. We're starting to sound like that moronic bunch of boo boys who live south of the river.
