Also, AVB the "tactical genuis" used Bale as a left back in 2012, to think that was only a year ago. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...e-gamble-didnt-pay-admits-Spurs-boss-AVB.html So all jokes aside about Redknapps views and AVB using him as a left back, there is little chance of it happening unless Madrid want him to be Roberto Carlos for a half!
The thing is,Bale was a L/B,that's the position he played in at school and when he joined Saints and the Position we bought him for.It was harry who moved him into M/F.
Real's assistant coach has said Bale isn't guaranteed a place in the starting line up. Oooh dear, that won't please Bale. Maybe that's his way of keeping Bale's feet on the ground and not head in the clouds stuff.
With all the Bale stuff on tv recently I saw clip of him doing a video self introduction in a Saints kit, he introduced himself as "Gareth Bale, left back and left midfield", so I assume he had some success playing there previously. I think I'm right in Bale being played there by default for us, I think we were out of options injury-wise, the list was chronic at the time, so I'm not sure how much to credit Harry with that, he made the decision of course, but I'm stuck between forced hand and masterstroke!
Bale was always going to be an attacking player so while it wasn't a masterstroke, it still needed a manager to give bale a chance to fully express himself and Arry was a major influence. But going back to his early days under Jol who played him at left back, remember the Fulham game http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/6963700.stm notice from the match report Thats supposed to be from when bale was ''crap''. He was fantastic from the start.
I'll be the one at the back, directing the angry mob towards the Bernabeu and passing out the flaming torches...
