Simply because of Group Think™, which is not a real fault of Not606, as it happens everywhere. Many theories have been given for him staying and leaving. No concrete explanations. Huge speculation. No one argument is more compelling than any other. The money could be from the sale of Bale. The money could be from the back of Lewis' sofa. Who really knows? There used to being a phrase around here that went something like: "I won't beleive he's signed for us until I see him in a Spurs shirt on the OS" I wont beleive anything until I see Bale in a Real shirt on their website. There are just too many unknown variables.
"There used to being a phrase around here that went something like: "I won't beleive he's signed for us until I see him in a Spurs shirt on the OS" That one died given the renowned speed of the OS. And even if Joe did inject money, we wouldn't know the specifics until probably 2015.
I think the thought is that if the transfer to Madrid was dead then Bale would come out and speak. As long as he says nothing we know that both possibilties are still on. I can imagine Levy saying to Bale, keep quiet and wait until you see what we are building here, then make your decision.
Bale shys away from speaking. It's not his style. His Twitter account, from what I remember, was more about Brand Bale than anything else. He doesn't do the A-list sleb thing. He doesn't do the cookery or sport TV shows. Asking Bale to keep quiet is like asking me to keep breathing. Oh dear, I can just see him now in front of the cameras saying "It's not about me. It's about the team. I just want to concentrate on my football, the next game and three points"
That wouldn't be good enough for me. I'd actually want to see it on our OS or for him to be actually playing in a game for them. They jumped the gun on modric on their website too
Why would he want to go to Madrid in a world record deal then? Sounds like a nightmare for someone like that
Maybe because he wants to "grow up", in the sense test himself away from here, as hes handled all the pressure fine so far for a quiet lad, he handled the pressure of being our one man team last year, not once did it allow it to effect his form and in interviews he seemed quite level headed and not one to get flustered. I reckon if he does go Madrid, he will leave on good terms with all at the club, and the fans will understand, unlike what happened with Modric, plus he will go onto become a huge success.
I wonder how much patience the Madrid fans will have with him if he's not an instant success, most of them have probably never seen him play apart from youtube clips
I hope that should Bale end up at Real he keeps Modric out of the starting XI. It would serve the rat-faced judas right for his part in Bale's tapping-up.
He's gone. Everything points to him leaving I'm afraid. I expect we'll hear something tomorrow or over the weekend. As his sale pretty much means we haven't spent anything, I'd like us to get another quality striker. Presuming the CB, coentrao, lamela and willian come off, 1 more striker could make us title contenders maybe this season, if not, next season. Exciting times ahead, despite the sale of Bale.
i'd take that £59m up front with coentrao and morrata. That would be a great deal for us and sort us right out. But i don't think either wants to come to lowly Spurs, makers of legends
Yep, might as well close this thread - unless we want it open until it's official, but no one is going to vote yes any more.
People keep pointing out that Madrid won't be able to fit all of their stars into one XI, like this is some enormous problem that they won't be able to get past. Ancelotti's a good, experienced manager and he'll switch things about regularly, depending on their opposition. They'll have fresh legs later in the campaign and people pushing to stay in the side. Some of their players will be virtually immovable, like Ronaldo, but the rest will have to step things up and impress or risk being dropped. That's exactly what they need to overhaul Barca, if that's possible. The prospect of Modric running things from the role that he had with us, which Alonso's freed up by picking up an injury, and having the option of picking out Bale, Ozil or Ronaldo is bloody frightening. Lob the likes of Isco, Di Maria and Illarramendi into the mix and they might even be a force in the later stages of the Champions League.
will Ronaldo stay there though? there's been talk of him potentially heading back to united. I don't think he's gonna like not being the centre of attention. Bale is stealing his world record transfer fee and is the new boy in town. He could well throw his toys out of the pram, i reckon.
I voted NO when this thread first appeared, there are just too many reasons to suggest he is going and I am more certain with every day that passes. I will be gutted when it is announced even if we secure the rumoured replacements. I just hope Levy rinses Madbid for the rumoured £85m plus
This seems less and less likely, but I suppose it could depend on whether they sign Bale. I can't see Ronaldo and Bale playing together. Ronaldo is a dominant force in the team; he scores lots of goals, he is the player the others look for in the final third, he has licence to roam left, right, through the middle, to drop off etc. So often, the end product is Ronaldo converting a chance created by him or one of his teammates. This is how Bale has been playing at Spurs. There just isn't room for two of these types in a properly functioning team, however good they are. We've seen it before with Real how too many galacticos spoil the broth. Bale would have to play a different role - and I don't think Real would pay £85M+ for him to revert to left wing or even left back. So if Bale does sign, it's because Ronaldo is leaving?
