I've got the same problem, with Possums and a raccoon - and our 4 neighborhood feral cats don't seem to be interested - despite one of the cats weighing over 6kg (yes, I do feed them)
Here's an updated hint from Elmer Fudd...
Grinning, I've got 7 cats would you like me to lend you a few? Better not be the ones that will bring it to you alive whilst your in the house.
I have 6 they are called Boris, Doris, Milk and Pepper, Squiggle and the Great Gatsby. Boris and Doris are continental giants and weigh over a stone each, Milk and Pepper are German lops and smaller.....and Squig and the Great Gatsby are what YOU might call rabbity rabbits...we have a chicken and a duck too. Cats don't bother us, nor do red kites. It is the occassional fox that is our worry, but I can usually hit them with a tennis ball............is that any help
On the subject of wildlife, last week on a footpath my 11 yr old daughter encountered a small black bear that growled at her, then climbed a tree - she drew a really nice picture of the incident too! We informed the police and wildlife officials got a statement from us. A couple of days later two bear cubs were sighted in a nearby backyard, then yesterday two cubs were captured from a tree behind the local neighbourhood fire station - the firemen & wildlife officials were actually able to use the long extension ladder off the truck to reach the tree in question, which was very convenient for all parties concerned. A major highway is not that far away and my daughter indicated that from the school bus the mother bear was sighted dead beside the road, so likely after mum died, the two cubs were on the lam for a few days. What goes with all the tomato paste and cream cheese on toast chat - is that an inside joke?
I think it's a play on the word miximatosis (suspect spelling!) Bears eh? Sure puts a few rabbits in perspective. When I saw your username I thought 'Kilburn's changed a lot since I lived there' Then I copped your location
Thanks, bit slow this morning. I remember as a kid once bringing home a "pet" rabbit that I had found, with odd teary eyes and being told it had that ailment! On the subject of other wildlife in my neighbourhood, our backyard backs onto a wooded park with a rocky slope, and a few years ago at a family BBQ on our patio, the kids' "pet" groundhog was taken right in front of us by a wily fox, who arrived at lightning pace, snapped his neck, ran off, then waited in the shadows to claim his prize for supper once we went back inside. Also our local Chinese restaurant was recently closed and fined by health authorities for having a rotting bear carcass in their walk-in cooler. They claimed that they had done this as a favour for a customer, who then decided he didn't want the bear and they didn't know what to do to get rid of it. Still makes me wonder about all those "beef" dishes that we consumed at that location.
No need to worry about the red kites Beth....their talons are too weak to pick up rabbits or anything of similar weight!! Buzzards will take rabbits though....should be plenty of them around your way?
