I think we edited scot loachs page a few seasons back to wind up some forrest fans(i think i put he was on a ridiculous wage!) some saw it as a hideouse crime, moat were hideously amused!
I struggle to not believe Wiki sometimes, and at uni we are told not to use the wiki article itself, but any other articles from reputable sources on the site.
BBW are you involved with any charities/organisations that involve you giving up your time for free? If so would you like your time to be wasted when you could be getting on with something useful? Wikipedia is an amazing project, aiming to gain as much information about our world as possible, whilst trying to verify it and make it a useful source of information. The fact that some cretins see it as their right to waste the volunteers time, who have put thousands of hours of effort into it really, really gets to me. But it's the internet, where everyone deserves the right to do what they want, right? People demand things and want improvements, whilst criticising sites like Wiki for not being accurate, but the internet as it is nowadays and most of the software you use was initially created by people that had a completely different idea of how things have turned out... Sites like Facebook have turned the internet into a money-making tool, rather than what is was before, a place to exchange informations and ideas. People with little or no knowledge of computing now have access, which will in turn hinder the rights and freedoms of the people that were there initially to 'set things up'. Torrenting will be banned, they're talking about making it a two-tier system, where big companies will get faster speeds by paying more, thus wiping out the small websites/businesses by paying for Google recognition. Basically what was an incredible tool for the free exchange of information all over the world is going to become like an online store... I'm not saying you're ruining the internet, but you're definitely making the jobs of people who are dedicating their free time to improve what could be an amazing free tool just so you can have 'a bit of fun with your friends'. If your life is that boring so be it, but surely there's something you could do that doesn't make volunteers work any harder, or at least stop being so f****** proud of it
Just as a side note, anyone know of the symbol for sarcasm or irony?! I was searching for it on Wikipedia but someone has updated the page with misguided information. I think the said symbols may be useful for future posts...
I had a kid in school with me who changed a page on some nuclear phisics essay we had to write, half the class wrote it in there essay, that was pretty funny
In general so do I Norway. But I think it's different when the person that the article is about could care less about having an article or whether any of it is true, as is the case with the people I have mentioned above. If Wikipedia is going to force an article on people that don't want them, consensual vandalism is a legitimate form of protest.
wasting a volunteers time and efforts is bad news in my book ! Not much more I can add , was funny the first time it happened with us, now its as tedious as the rumour site! Due to muppets , I dont visit either site anymore!
Nope no joke there imo purely infantile behaviour is all , not what I would expect from intelligent adults!
