SSN reporting Steve Wigley has had his contract terminated. Also Stuart Watkiss and Shaun Rush. Gary Walsh stays. Kevin Kilbane also gone.

No great surprise as SB will want his own backroom staff - I think Wigley was liked by the players, so hopefully we will find someone as good or better to replace him.

So much for keeping a nucleus of staff regardless of the manager. I don't understand why new managers want to bring in their own physios.

maybe they dont want to but they HAVE to..........
then the owners can say 'well it's YOUR backroom staff that weren't performing" so it is easier to fire them.

So, you're under the impression that every manager that comes to a new club is told that it is compulsive for him to fire his backroom staff and bring in his own, just so that it's easier to fire him later?

Putting the ridiculousness of that theory to one side, it's extremely easy to fire a football manager anyway, even if they're doing very well. Take Gary Megson at Wednesday for example.

wasn't the idea of having coaches etc who would be independently employed ie not tied to the manager (that probably doesn't make sense in the way i have written it - but hopefully you get the gist of what i'm trying to say) always going to be doomed as each manager wants a close knit team of people he knows and trusts.

incidentally can anyone define what a strength and conditioning coach does

Makes the players stronger and fitter basically.

No surprise but still a shame and another one who has suffered from all this.
The players really liked Wigley and his coaching styles, which was one of the reasons NB brought him in.

hence thats why I put MAYBE...... some of you people should really read the posts first

<doh> I didn't miss the use of the word maybe, but that doesn't change my response. It's still ridiculous to suggest it even if you're not stating it as a certainty.

Shame for Steve Wigley as with Black staying @ Blackburn Wigs would have been a good No.2 for Bruce. Glad that GARY WALSH is staying but no surprise as SB/GW played at Man Utd together. No too fussed about Rush and Watkiss to be honest. Maybe they needed to be changed ?

Most managers always bring in there own people. It happens in football. Many others do the same.

Yes but its not a glee club is it ? If the players leave to go elsewhere then Wigley would not have been there. I agree Wigley has been mssed on but its the harsh reality of 21st centiry football.

Poor old wigley, rather than sending him packing we should have registered him and attack him out on the wing, could do with a good old wingeR we could.

I put this on the other thread. Originally the plan was the backroom staff would all stay in place with Bruce only bringing in an assistant with Watkiss becoming developement coach again, so OLM would've been right. However, the plan has now changed and Bruce wants his own staff. So Wigley, Watkiss, Foster and Rushy are all leaving. And the Allams did refuse to let Wigley join Pearce for the Euros.
