As has been said, that’s just good management, they had a dip in form and the manager pepped them up, that’s great to hear.
to put some perspective on last night December Wigan 0 Rochdale 5 January Wigan 0 Blackpool 5 February Wigan 0 City 5 maybe it was just our turn - lets see what the next two games bring before we 'are over the moon' - Wigan are particularly **** and we need to start producing a bit of consistency against better teams and not just against the divisions whipping boys
Magennis in the Team of the Week ha ha Even the Wigan commentator kept saying ' another heavy touch there from Magennis' He can not trap wind never mind a football.
It depends on whether they wobble like we did. They seem very consistent, but in our draws against them I didn’t think they were the best we’ve faced this season. I wouldn’t fancy us in the playoffs, but then again, they work a bit differently and it’s almost like starting a mini season, so who knows how we would get on.
Magennis does seem to have a poor touch, but he has a really good footballing brain. It’ll never happen, but I think both him and Eaves would play better as attacking midfielders than as out and out strikers.
I had a quick squint at their results too. I was hoping to see the heavy defeats being followed by a backlash for the next oponents, Lincoln in this case. Sadly, there wasn't one.
I agree with some of your posts but crickey, this one has to be a wind up surely?!! They, especially Eaves, are the most unlikely midfielders I could ever think of!!
Maybe midfield in terms of movement is overstating it a bit haha, I meant in terms of their vision and passing. They aren't actually bad at that, they seem much better at finding team mates than they do putting the ball in the net. Though Magennis is doing a great job of proving me wrong, I didn't think he'd reach double figures this season but there he is. Good on him.
Eaves is as near to a pacifist as I’ve seen on the pitch, 6”5 isn’t he? Better off as the green cross code man, helping little kids across the road
Devil's advocate, but we folded at lowly Burton, and had not rippled the net for a while before last night. On that basis I'm gratefully taking it, it was a timely tonic and not a game too soon. COME ON HAL.
Devil's devil's advocate. Burton and Wigan are not comparable. Burton rebuilt their squad in January! They looked ok; not world beaters, but ok. Now 3 wins out of 4. I'd expect them to escape relegation. On the other hand, Wigan, 1 win in 5, were dire, at least once we scored; they were the better side until that moment, but then you could see the life just drain out of them. We were the latest in a line of teams to have hammered a team that are going down again. We failed to beat, or even draw with, a team that is trying to gel and will likely finish just above the relegation zone. Since our impressive 2 match winning run / performances in January, the only win we had in 5 was a 1-0 win over Swindon, being another team bound for relegation, with only 3 points out of their last 15. Saturday is a meaningful test. Still, agree, "a timely tonic".
What happened when we played Shrewsbury at home? I bet Donny are looking forward to Saturday. Even more of a meaningful test for them.
