The sooner somebody stops patronising, the less I’m going to pull that person up on their silly tendencies. The rest of the forum function quite well. Still, in any walk of life there is a token melt so happy we have our own.
Oh my god you are such an idiot it’s quite beyond me. Apparently you own a business- you couldn’t run a bath.
I won’t say any more on this issue but stay tuned for more of Hampys patronising ways whatever the result Saturday. All hail the melt.
I think what Westy is trying to say here is that on a shoestring budget in just one window Paul Hurst took a horrendous football side and managed to assemble a squad capable of playing slick, passing, exhilarating football that will get bums back on seats.
I can only speak for myself but I’ve been 4x this season which is a substantial increase (didn’t go at all the last 2 seasons under MM). For me, it’s about getting value for money & spending approx £50 watching a team trying to scrap their way to a 0-0 draw was no fun. Doubtless, I will get people calling me a fair weather fan or mocking the results but at least I can see the team playing the ball on the floor some of the time
I'm not interested in going out of my way to support Marcus Evans and Paul Lambert and it was the same for Mick McCarthy. I have much better things to do with my life. Thousands of others who even live in the Town itself feel exactly the same and it doesn't make them fair weather supporters. They are just waiting like me for us to get our club back. I was excited by Hurst because it looked as though we were going to change the way we do things, but then a couple of months in and that was a red herring. Fair weather supporters are the ones who only turn up to the ground when it's Man United, Liverpool or Norwich. That isn't what's going on here at all.
Fair play to you and I know there were a lot more genuine Town fans who voted with their feet when it came to Mick's brand of non-football. Really can't believe there are some (well only one really) who couldn't see the problem.
Oh a subtle dig, well played you I didn't like McCarthy's style of football either from an aesthetic viewpoint. It was hard to watch! I also agree with your friends / people you've heard of saying this - many said the same on TWTD. No problem there from me. Okay so we're going down the attendance route - no worries..... lets see how the numbers hold up. This season, new manager bounce, bye bye dinosaur etc v last seasons first game attendance 18940 this v 18153 last. Not much in it, but sure, this season, winning. Season tickets this season slightly up around 500 or so. Last season average attendance - 16,272 v this season - we don't know yet. Will be skewed somewhat this season as the introduction of Sky midweek red button which will lose viewing figures.14640 v Wigan on a Saturday. 15129 home on a Saturday for Lambert new manager ' bounce '. Sure, 23,000 v WBA however that was a promotion game with loads of tickets given away for free by a lad who came up with a scheme. Good man!!! So what I will say, straight away, if why aren't 1 - season tickets considerably up and 2 - why aren't matchday ticket sales dramatically up!? When we beat Charlton 3-0 in 2014/15 in December, and were second, we had over 26,000 in the ground. I am of the opinion fans will moan moan moan, yet if we're having a form of success, people will come. It's as simple as that with attendances for me. If Lambert can keep us up this season, I think gates should be up next season though! Just my two cents on attendances. They are poor, and are costing the club a lot of revenue.
If he does a job and gets us out of the **** then marvellous and thank you very much, but from a character perspective I don’t like him and he’s made an awful start on the pitch. I’m open minded if something changes but at the moment can’t see it happening. I think what’s needed is someone getting them to roll their sleeves up and fight, not all the airy fairy rubbish.
Losing and gaining fans is a slow burn effect, I doubt it’s significant season on season. What the club should be worried about is a whole generation up to their teens and early 20s will know nothing but Town being rubbish and often an embarrassment. That is going to have an impact on the club for 50 years unless we find our way into Europe and winning major trophies. I saw it happen at Portsmouth, most people didn’t even consider themselves Pompey fans until they got into the Premier League and then they started to say ‘us’. There was going to be a new stadium built and then of course it all went tits up and back to how it was before. At Primary School I remember arguing in the changing rooms about whether Town or Liverpool were the better club and when school had a civvies day in the early 90s, nearly all the boys and half the girls turned up in their Town replica shirts. That would have never happened in Portsmouth. That’s what we’ll gradually lose.
Jesus Christ, people thought I used to talk a load of **** but feck me...westy and Hampy have taken it to a new level!
It appears the club is showing some intelligence regarding attendances. Sheff Utd - u19s are £1. Rotherham game, all adult prices are £12 so at least (finally) they are trying to get more people in the stadium and create a better atmosphere
