Thing is who can say Martinez wont do a great job ? If you had thought Alan Pardew was going to Liverpool a year ago you would have gone fukin spare with the same reaction your having now about Martinez and look what a great job he has now done with the toon. Thing is whoever you appoint its all just a gamble and as a Chelsea fan I know this as well as anyone.
Whilst I think there's better candidates out there who might be interested in Liverpool as a 5 year project (possibly more), I'd be fine with Martinez getting a shot providing there's also a strong and reliable back room behind him.
Here is Martinez talking about management: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16564747 He really is a very likable guy.
There could be a problem over wages, but considering Chelsea probably had to pay up his contract, I doubt if he's short of a few bob! Martinez would surely be a cheaper option than most of the others in the frame, is this the way FSG are looking to go, I wonder?
I dont think FSG will be looking for cheap. But it will have to make business sense. They signed the two most expensive players in Baseball history in the same transfer window recently.
He is a likeable bloke. Far to nice to be savaged by your arrogant "fans". I hope he stays where he is.
http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/adrian-gonzalez/ On April 15, 2011, Gonzalez and the Red Sox agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth $154 million through the 2018 season it may not be the top 10 but $21,000,000 a year is serious
all we can say is FSG said clearly not 24 hours ago that there were no front runners.... were they lying? dave whelan is very well known for licking utd hole so i think he may be tryingto destabilise us further and wind up... some of what he said was quite specific in that regard. who knows...
Liverpool FC have been given permission to talk to Wigan manager Roberto Martinez about the vacant manager's job at Anfield. MyDeco: £20 discount on sign up!Here's the story of Roberto Martinez career so far as a player and manager: 1973: Born July 13 in Balaguer, Spain. 1993: Begins his playing career with Balaguer in the Spanish third division. 1995: Signs for Primera Division club Real Zaragoza. June 2 - Fined by the Football Association and warned as to his future conduct after criticising referee Stuart Attwell for sending off Wigan defender Gary Caldwell during a match against Manchester City in March. August 28 - Wigan make a dreadful start to the season, losing their opening three league games in which they concede 11 goals and score none. 2011: May 22 - A 1-0 win at Stoke proves to be enough to keep Wigan in the Premier League. June 9: Wigan chairman Dave Whelan confirms he has given permission for Aston Villa to speak to Martinez regarding their managerial vacancy. June 10: Martinez announces his intention to remain at Wigan and signs a three-year extension to his current deal at the DW Stadium. May: Wigan finish the season three points and two places above the Premier League relegation zone, with 42 points. 2012: May 13: Wigan finish the season with a flourish. A 3-2 defeat of relegated Wolves is their seventh win in nine games, ensuring they finish six points clear of the relegation zone in 15th position, with 43 points. May 17: Wigan chairman Dave Whelan reveals managerless Liverpool have made an approach for Martinez and the manager has been given permission to speak to the Anfield side. His CV doesn't exactly scream success.
When all the WUMs are offering genuine support for Martinez, you know he must be utter ****. All we need now is Fergie, chipping in with "He's worth twice as much, for his half time team talks alone!"
Liverpool are hardly in a position to be batting away managers though with the current squad. Maybe the best thing that can happen is for a Martinez to take the reigns and clear out all the **** - Henderson, Downing, Shelvey, Spearing and co. Maybe even a new goal keeper as well.
