This weekend just shows how hard it will be to pull back the 10 points we need. For much of the game while we were winning it was just maintaining the points gap. With such fragile confidence, it's only mathematics that's keeping us up currently. We're deep in a gravity well with no fuel to jettison that would provide an extra boost. It's all too little too late. I hope we can maintain the entertaining performances so we can enjoy our last couple of games.
If we win and Reading win then everyone probably feels differently, even though the gap is the same. It’s not done yet but we need to take every single remaining opportunity to win a game. Regardless of what we do the line is likely to be at around 40-42 points so it will require us to win about half our remaining matches to survive.
so we have won 3 out of 34 games & you believe we can win 7 out of the last 14 ?. Hampy, I admire your optimism.
I didn’t back us to do it, that’s just what’s needed. There are twelve. Two of those need to be against Reading and Bolton. Can we get four wins and a couple of draws from the other ten? Not against the realms of possibility playing as we are. But do I fancy us? No, I think it’ll all be over after this weekend.
The lowest ever points tally in the Championship is 23 (Rotherham) and then 26 (Peterborough) so I think objective A is to surpass those as quickly as possible. Cannot think of anything worse than being relegated, other than being relegated with a record low number of points. In fact I think I could accept relegation if we continued to play relatively well and get to 30+ points
I disagree, I think we will be left with a mathematical chance right up until 3 or 4 games to go. As someone quoted previously, "it,s the hope that kills you "
When I say all over, of course it will not be mathematically over this weekend, it's impossible for another five matches even if Town get no points and Reading or Rotherham win the next four on the bounce.
