This. I thought Wickham was a constant thorn in their side during the 2nd half. Won every header, his control and touch were very good and he helped bring the midfield into play. We dominated the 2nd half and were unlucky not to win the game nevermind being beaten.
As much as I don't disagree, I though yesterday was McCleans best game for us this season, although he didn't have much to beat did he!! Would like to know what people thought of Johnson? He was poor IMO, he has shown a few class touches but nothing like we know he is capable of. What do we do with midfield? Without Cattermole we are lightweight. Weakest midfield I have seen this season when he's not in it. What options do we have? Gardner, Johnson, McClean, Larsson, Sessegnon, Colback,, Campbell, Vaughan? Not by much in there for me. I would revisit some of our (mine included) posts in August when we said how terrifying it'd be for defences against McClean, Johnson and Sessegnon. Well it hasn't happened so surely our midfield needs a shake up? Change tactics? 4-4-2 with Wickham and Fletcher up front for me. Pay Larsson out wide and Gardner and Sessegnon in the centre? Or push Sess onto the wing and give a wing a rest?
Made a big difference having Gardner in the CM. He looks a threat from either foot and can strike a ball. Think about his goal any of our other CM's would have made a sideways or backward pass instead of having a shot. I think its going to be Gardner and Catts as our first choice eventually. Sess on the Right Johnson on the left and Wickham up top with Fletch looks the way forward to me. To be honest lads were getting there slowly. Rose looks and great LB and Bardo is finding his form after a long time out. We just need to sort the centre halfs out, I was not convinced by Cuellar and Killa looks rusty, the lad should have been first choice from the start of the season in my book, he looks like he is lacking match sharpness to me. Still I think the Sess Garnder Johnson combination is looking better going forward now, so lets hope for some more goals at the weekend.
