everyone doesn't buy the bullshit though and if they disagree with others over issues it's not really fair to say they do

I think it works the other way more to be honest. The majority of fans will take the opposing side to Ashley before any facts are revealed.

But like you said, you don't know that he did. We all do know that Nolan had 2 years left on his contract, we all do know that he is no pushover and we all do know that he didn't have to leave.

No point in coming to conclusions that it's all the fault of the big fat ogre on the top floor just because it 'usually' is. Nobody knows.. as you said, so therefore there's no need in having a go at people who are open minded enough to accept that it could be a whole number of things that caused this.

    Bollox man.

They might have been first team players (not so much Ranger though) but Ranger was a teenager and Carroll not much older.

People like you, who make articles criticising other fans just because they do not react the same way as you do, make me sick.

    All this because Nolans going......

So you would have given a soon to be 29 year old who is already slow and not a naturally fit player, a 5 year deal on 50k a week?

I am with Ashley on this one. Nolan had a cracking season but i think we may have seen his best. £5m for him when we can get Gardner for the same.... good deal.

Ashley is not putting up with player power, sends a good message to the rest of the squad. This club has bent over for players and given stupid contracts out for too long.

If a few of these deals being mentioned in the papers come through i will be happy with whats in place. We stand to lose alot of dross in the next couple of year, likes of Lovenkrands, Ameobi, Guthrie, Raylor, Smith and Xisco.

Players on decent money leaving for nowt if needs be and freeing up wages for incoming talent.

Potentially getting in Neil Taylor, M'Bengue (if Enrique goes), Gardner, Reo Coker (for nowt), Ba (for nowt), Barnetta and Erdinc. Already got Cabaye and Gosling and HBA will be like new players.....

If these come off (and its a big IF) then i cant see us missing Nolan, Barton and Enrique.

    What is this ****?

Just because people leave it doesn't have to be anybodys 'fault'? Ever thought Nolan wants to play football, we can't guarantee that so it's decided he moves to somewhere that can?

And because we don't all call Ashley a fat pie eating **** at every opportunity we'd accept being moved to Buckinghamshire? Get ****ing real man, he's an improvement on what we had before, he's saved this club from being the next Leeds, Shepherd paid Owen £133,000 a week, Luque £70,000 a week. He made mistakes similar to this at first but then turned things round and introduced a wage cap, which a lot of people think will stop us progressing. He never sacked Keegan, Keegan walked(surprising). Fair enough he didn't like the way things were being run but he left us in the ****. He never gave managers less than 10 games to prove themselves, he hired Shearer with 8 games left in the faint hope he could keep us up. Didn't work, **** happens, we're in a better position now because of it.

It's not just about player ability, he dragged us up by the bootlaces so many times in games, he is a great leader and the rest of the squad love him. If he and Barton go then Colo for captain!

Where do I ever say that? Maybe I didn't put it well, but the article was about how everybody just always grasps at this paper-thin glimmer of hope and tries to make it into gaping hole of shining light. I came on here after hearing the news and expected to see a few comments condemning the fact we have become so stubborn on wages that we won't offer our captain, top scorer, leader and the man who everyone claims has built our team spirit from nothing a decent contract so that he could finish his days with us and this has led us to sell him for no real reason other than stubbornness. We seem to have this policy nowadays that if you don't sign by the club's offers within a couple of weeks then you're off. Jose, Barton, Nolan, Carroll. It's a contract. It involves bargaining. That does include the players too, but when you hear stories like Barton saying he's happy to take a small pay cut to stay and we for whatever reason aren't happy with that and force it down it gets you down.

Carroll signed a contract 3 months before he left. Why would we chuck 80k at him? Jose is refusing to negotiate. Nolan like i said probably wants to go somewhere where he will play football. Barton is the ONLY player who will probably leave over his contract talks, and that's just because of the length of contract.

.. it's not the owners position to be the media darling .. tell me another owner (Dave Whelan aside) that is constantly updating folk with whats going on at their club, that's the Managers job .. of course he's the dictator at the club, he owns it .. I honestly wouldn't care if I never heard another peep from Ashley

Yes Ashley has become intractible regarding contracts. He has put in a financial plan and a wage cap and he appears to be enforcing it. That is all to the good as far as I am concerned. Premiership players are and have for years been ridiculously overpaid to the extent that all football clubs are so in debt that it cannot be sustained. Our owner has decided to do something about it. So all contracts where the wages are above the cap are being negotiated so that players have to take a cut if they want their contract extended. If they refuse they are sold for any amount we can get and a cheaper replacement is recruited (and so far there is no evidence that we are reducing the quality of our players in this way).

Barton and Nolan may not like this because it is not in their interest but it most definitely is in the better interests of our club and in my opinion it is therefore in our best interests too.

Players are going to have to come to realise that the golden days of massive wages are going to have to come to an end. I'm actually proud that our club is taking a stand on this.

"Why do people just seem to roll over and take Ashley's side on every ****ing matter?"

This is the point that I was getting at ^. I don't see anybody rolling over and taking his side on every matter but I do see people who aren't poised waiting for something bad to happen so that they can instantly slam the guy. All we have right now is a bit of info about Nolan in the process of leaving to another team and suddenly everybody has their own opinion and idea of what has happened. Personally, I say stay back and wait until more info comes out then make the decision and this is what most people who are disagreeing with you here are saying too.

Time and time again he does this, and time and time again we eventually roll over and accept it because his unwillingness to invest properly means our finances are OK. I even got past the Hughton bullshit, but Barton and now this is just too much. I'd sooner anyone, anyone in the world owned this club than Mike Ashley.
