Same thing but I'd say you're right to the extent that it is more normal to say "less likely". Unlikelier is a bit ugly and difficult so probably why it's not used often
I think "unlikelier" is OK it conveys the meaning, a bit like bouncebackability. I think the most likely outcome is that Dave will end up as slightly the larger party but be unable to put together a coalition. Then if Miliband forms a government he will dare the other parties to bring him down knowing that it is them who will get blamed for forcing another election (In October)
This is the Tory approach to politics. Smear everyone else and hope people never question you. And some many people just go on believing their bollocks and never looking into things for themselves. Didn't mean to link the whole facebook post, just the video. Oh well.
I gave my fairly negative summary recently but the nearer we get to polling day the more stark the choices become. It is either a Tory led coalition which will in all probability not include the Lib Dems as they will be short of viable numbers and lacking the political will to have another 5 years of election drubbings (there looks to be an almighty scrap between the coalition partners at the moment). Who the viable partners would be is a difficult question as the Tories are becoming more toxic with their personal rhetoric and could only appeal to the Irish Unionists and Farage's M.P. The alternative choice and probably more likely runner currently is a Labour / SNP and possibly others combo. This is so unappetising because the whole of the U.K. will be effectively blackmailed by the very canny SNP and Miliband will have very little choice as the other route is to call a re-run. This seond scenario would be highly unstable in my view as the SNP will keep coming back for more (a la Oliver) and push Labour to breaking point. As much as I hate the City and all of its goings on, there is no escaping the fact that our currency and whole entity as a trading nation with the immediate impact of inward investment will be viewed negatively and indirectly affect us all. I doubt if the Lib Dems will join up to this as a third party in the coalition and so any additional requiements seat wise would have to come from the Plaid Cymru or SDLP parties - a rainbow coalition as it has been named with the very minor additional partners all demanding their pound of flesh. It does make you reflect on the last 5 years and realise it was not the worst Government we have ever had. I do worry as to what could actually happen this time around. Nurse!
You make so,me very good points Thurnby and my concern is that the 'sheep' north of the Border (and I originally come from NE Scotland!!) seem hell bent on voting SNP in their droves (or should that be herds??) and so denying Labour a majority of any sort. A 'marriage' between Labour/SNP is IMO the most likely outcome in about a month's time and I fear that the 'wicked witch of the north' will keep demanding more and more and I can see it resulting in another election within 2 to 3 years at most, as the SNP will eventually bring down whoever is in power.
Well an overall majority looks unlikelier than ever after this week. The Tories campaign has descended into total chaos and this is being reflected it their poll ratings. Miliband simply cannot deal with the SNP due to the resulting loss of support,so it looks like stalemate.
It doesn't seem right that a tinpot nation of just 5M people could hold the rest of the UK to ransom. The more I think about it, the more I wish that the Jocks had got their independence at least we wouldn't have to worry about Millipede in No.10 ! Re-build that bloody wall and repatriate all of the Scots that's what I say
If Scotland had of gotten independence I would have really considered moving there. The Free higher education alone is a big incentive. One of the main reasons I can't find it with in myself to vote Labour this time around is they have such a weak stance on the Uni's fees. Cutting it to 6 Grand a year is a token gesture at best.
I must admit it's only the weather that would stop me. I am seriously considering France I can get a house like the one I have and keep half the money. Colk, you really need to decide between half a loaf and no bread. It is every City supporter's duty to vote Labour...JWM will have a major seizure!!
The thing is Greens have a lot of support in Norfolk and Norwich especially. I believe Norwich South is the biggest green support currently in the country (Though don't quote me on that). I understand the reasoning behind tactical voting, I just believe that you have to vote for the change you want, not for who you think is most likely to get in to power. I have very little influence over anything that politicians do currently so I'm going to use my vote as I feel best represents me, the future of this country and the planet. I expect everyone else to do the same. It just amazes me how many people think the Tories actually represent anyone without a bank account in Switzerland!
The Greens cannot win in Norwich South. They probably can't come second either. Using your vote to secure a podium finish can only risk depriving Labour of a seat which,if the Lib Dems retain will just encourage them to give Dave a leg up to the No10 back window/
No that has to Brighton Pavilion as Caroline Lucas is their one sitting MP, until last week anyway. The local green council is apparently hated and so don't hold your breath for her.
Sad but absolutely true KIO. The SNP are a poisonous bunch and I fully believe that secretly they wanted Cameron to win so that they could carry on banging on about everything with no Westminster responsibility. Once they are in cahoots with anyone (well labour obviously) they will have to engage with one or more principles and then the shine will start to come off, and possibly very quickly. As JR suggests an earlyish election would be on the cards and potentially very quickly. Their behaviour in the House of Commons is also pretty poor and I realise that is a pretty strange statement to make but they have absolutely no respect whatsoever and are basically bully boys. Of course one of their would-be MP's texted how they f*cking hated Celtic several times. The Scots though seem pretty blinded by them and it has certainly buggered up any shoe in for any essentially English dominated party.
I have a little inside information on Brighton Pavilion. Labour are feeling quite gloomy about the prospects of winning it from The Greens. I suspect it will remain their one and only seat.
'Ain't that the truth'????? Unfortunately it is - hence why I referred to them as 'sheep'!!! They forget to look at the skilled jobs that would be lost without playing a major role in building new aircraft carriers, the nuclear submarine base at Faslane etc
