Bruce's original contract was 1 Million a year. Obviously he's had a pay rise since then which I very much doubt would be anywhere near 3 Million a year. More like 1.5 a year if that. Still nice work if you can get it.
Cant see us getting Cisse, missed out opportunity. The mags will probably be more appealing to him now. We were linked with that Wagner Love a wile back, he would be an amazing signing. Desperate to leave Russia aswell apparently. Could also have another go for that Kuranyi. But I cant see Short giving Bruce any more cash to spend. We will have to make do with what we have till next summer.
That's not the case. They told Bent to **** off in August, then greedy bastard Bruce re-negotiated his own contract in November/December, and then they told Bent to **** off again in January. If Bruce wasn't happy with his contract, why sign it? If he did sign, is it too much to ask him to honour it?
That wouldnt have made an ha peth of difference mate....Bents on 88 grand a week at Villa..theres no way we would ever have paid that
Once again. Quinn told Bent to **** off for demanding a second pay rise in five months. He got the first one and told Bruce and Quinn he was very happy to stay. That said Bruce has nothing to do with players wages anyway. The club offered Bruce a new contract (he didn't demand it) at a time when all things were well (Pre-BOB's). Would you turn down a pay rise if offered? Of course not. Now try guessing what your boss would say if you demanded two pay rises in five months. I'm very sure you, me, Bent and Bruce would all get the very same answer. "**** right off".
Jersey, you're too bright to be giving me this. (1) Nobody needs 60 grand a week - but you're worth it if the man paying the piper thinks you are ... that's free market trading. (2) We're not talking businessmen - we're talking about the entertainment business, and there's no reason why Lionel Messi should be paid less than Michael Jackson when both entertain(ed) thousands of people in a concert environment every week. (3) What that money could do for either you or the kids in Africa is an irrelevancy - whether Bent was paid it or not, you can be pretty sure Ellis Short was not going to pop it into an envelope and send it to you. (4) "The world's ****ing crazy"? - yes, well you might just be right there, mate, but I think we can be quite certain that Darren Bent didn't make it that way. Bent's just a product of his time, nothing more, nothing less. And if you or I was in that position, we'd want similar money to our England team-mates just like him. John Terry is reputed to be on £130,000 a week. Bent asked for less than half of that. Was he really greedy, given the standards of the business he's in. Was he?
But its not that easy, we have a wage cap, and we need one, Man U Chelsea etc dont have a wage cap, if Bent was playing for Chelsea, fine ask for a rise, he wasnt, he was playing for us, we couldnt afford to give him a rise, as our turnover is ****. He is seemingly on 88,000pw at AV, we couldnt hope to match that, so he ****ed off, thats life, hes gone, lets move on (after slating him once on saturday) and we beat them, He also said they had better payers, Young and Downing, both ****ed off in the summer lol Cappello said he ws a better player for AV after 2 games than for us, he touched the ball 30 times in those 2 games, 2 shots inside the 6 yrd box and scored 2, how the hell is that a better player than when he played for us i will never know. He moved for more money (which we couldnt hope to match) and because cappello said he should to improve his English chances. If I was in his shoes and the same was done to me, I would bugger off as well (If i had no allegience to the club like Bent)
Yes, I've said something similar on this thread earlier - Sunderland are in a double bind now. We know Bent was worth more, and on nothing like his England team-mates. But with wages at 80% of turnover, we just can't pay it. We need to merchandise on a global scale like the bigger clubs, and we won't be able to pay such wages until we do. I agree with all your Capello comments. Bent scores six-yard tap-ins wherever he plays - his anticipation and positioning is exceptional and he uses it. Better player, my backside. If he changed it would spoil what he has.
mate stop sticking up for him check four four two rich list it states he's on £3 mil a year on there!
On the contrary mate...trust me I know exactly what Mr Bents On and its 88 grand a week, if you care to message me and il be happy to let you know exactly how I know. Any one who knows me on this forum will tell you, Iam not in the business of grabbing or plucking amounts or facts out of thin air...besides let me run this by yer..he was on allegedly 55 grant a week with us...do you honestly think he was going to make that move for an extra 5 to 10 grand...I think not
you mean this brilliant piece of investigitive journalism which i did see yesterday but just laughed at He took over at Sunderland in June 2009 and his contract at the Black Cats is reckoned to be worth £3m a year, a 50% rise on his Wigan contract.
