Now we are on the verge of another new Season and I for one can't wait. I can't understand why there are so many doubters inc our own fans!. We have a fantastic young manager given the time which I'm sure he will get our club is going the right way which is more than I can say for certain clubs we are financially sound some fantastic players and most importantly the best fans on the planet so COYS!!

I understand that but I think given the responsibility JD will relish being the main man and I think Ade will join soon and i have watched Harry Kane quite close and he may not have pace but he can be a star in the making !!

sorry YA28, I don't understand how you can be so optimistic when there's huge gaps in our squad and we're actually weaker than last year as things stand.

I'm all for getting behind the team and supporting the club I love, but we aint helping ourselves at the moment, mate!

the doubt is there because everyone is incredibly worried as to how we're going to end up and how unprepared we are.

    surely you can see that?

I think we're in a bit of a mess at the moment, to be honest.
We've got quite a lot of quality throughout the side, but we don't have a capable lone striker or a fit playmaker, so I think we'll go into the opening game pretty unbalanced.
The pre-season's been disrupted by international tournaments and injuries, so we've got a variety of players that aren't 100%, either.

A few signings over the next couple of weeks and I'll feel a lot more confident, but we seem to be going into the campaign without being fully prepared for it.

    Either:
You can talk it up as much as you like Daniel but the fans aren't buying it.
    or
How about parting with some of that acid?

  9. Had you posted this thread 10 seasons ago, I'd agree with you, Yidarmy28. Back then, our expectations were confined to having a good cup run and finishing in the top half of the table. However, our expectations have been raised since the days of Jol, to the point where anything less than a top 5 finish is viewed as disappointing.

The team we have is very exciting, and AVB is probably good enough to ensure that we finish comfortably in the top half of the table, but is that going to be enough? I seriously doubt it.

Without at least two more established strikers we are going to be severely handicapped over the course of the entire season. Yes, we may buy in the January window, but that would more than likely be forced upon Levy by us having a dismal first half of the season!

It is unrealistic to believe that we can compete for a top 5 place with only Defoe and the untried Kane as our strike-force.

Some of the guys on here just love doom and gloom they don't want to be happy and optimistic.

When the transfer window closes is the time to consider the squad. We cannot second guess the problems with signing players. You don't just visit a player supermarket and fill your basket. I think a number on here are unrealistic in their expectations and need to lighten up.

I can understand all that but I believe we will get the players we need the only thing that is a worry for me is fans not giving AVB ago and I have a sneaky feeling that this will be a fantastic season for Jake Livermore. We will have a great season don't worry sit back and enjoy !

  12. If you remember, Spurf, I was criticized by a few on here for being overly optimistic last season. I'm going to be a little more cautious this season.

All I will say - all anyone can say - at this stage, is that if we do not get additional strike-cover we cannot expect to finish in the top 5. If we do get additional strike-cover, we do have a legitimate expectation to finish inside the top 5.

That's being neither optimistic nor pessimistic. It's being realistic.

NEW STRIKER has been a running theme for pre-season over the past ten years. You have to remember the job of the fans is to pick the whole team to pieces and that job's done well on here. It'll never change.

I'm in the happy clappers camp. It'll all come good in the end. COYS.

but that's not the case at all spurf. the season starts tomorrow, not when the window closes. we should have the majority of a squad together ready to compete in a 38 game campaign. as it stands we're no where near that. the longer we leave it, the longer those players take to fit in with their new teammates.

I don't know who's being unrealistic at all. I havent seen any posts that show evidence of that. I think most of us would like to see a top 4 finish, which we are capable of, but this time actually end up in the CL. who's expecting more than that?!

as Hiag says, it's not doom and gloom, its being realistic.

No King, Modric, Adebayor and a new manager who is unproved in England

1 senior striker and Parker doesnt seem like he will be playing much this season either.

It's not unrealistic to see how it couldn't be a good season.

Don't let me spoil your misery. If it floats your boat to prejudge the end of the window then that's what you will do, although it is a bit boring reading it all.

We know and the club knows that we need strikers and a replacement for Modric however these players are not easy to find within a price that can be afforded, otherwise Madrid would not be seeking Modric would they.

You can rest assured that it's more important to AVB and Levy to sort this problem than it is for us. All we have to do is watch and enjoy and that's what it's about. Not pulling your hair out over things you can't control.

    Carry on moaning! <laugh>

We don't know the ins-and-outs of it but other clubs seem to manage to buy strikers. In fact, name one of the teams we want to be competing with that doesn't have a striker that fits their system?

The thing is, we were in the same position we are now quite early on in the transfer window. I was very positive then. However, since then nothing has been done to rectify the 4-year-old NEW STRIKER problem. ****, "NEW STRIKER" started on bbc 606 for crying out loud!
