Wigan was the breaking point for me and I think that Short got it right. I agree that the by the end of last season Bruce became a joke but bought well in the Summer apart from a proven striker and deserved to be given a chance which he didn't take. Both fans and Short both gave Bruce plenty of time to change it around but he couldn't do it. IMO the players lost faith in Bruce and Bruce lost faith in himself (he should have done the Honourable thing and walked).
I think a dozen games was about right. Couldn't wait any longer though; Norwich, Wigan, Mags, Villa, Brom, Wolves, Fulham (no divine right but) all games where we should have got more points than we did. Performance wise got more poor by the week. But most of all, start having a go at the fans and it's bye bye.
i think in time Bruce's reign will be looked upon in better light, i think we would of finished with a similar points total as last season under him and he has left us with a decent squad, better than when he took charge. I however do belive he was right to go as he was not the man to take us any further.
I don't mate, I think we were on the verge of imploding with Bruce and though he did some things right, he got a hell of a lot more things wrong. Still that's in the past now and we can only improve.
If we had sacked Bruce in May we would have been a laughing stock after finishing where we did, the managers union still reckoned he sacking was harsh(but they would wouldn't they) - he was got rid of at the at the right time(he could have went a game or two earlier perhaps) and cannot say he was not given a fair crack of the whip. Anyway, he was out drinking in Ponteland with two other blokes at the weekend looking happy enough - he has 3 million reasons to be happy apparently....................
