sorry mate, have no idea what that means? Am I working the night shift? Is that it? lol I've never lived in Sunderland so dont understand lol I know what marra means lol
Taken to roker park as a kid by my dad in late 60's, standing on wooden seat on ropes hanging from the clockstand paddock , me dad throwing money at the peanut bloke who gave me a bag. Great memories. Still laugh when I took me dad to last game at roker, went to pick him up and he had his suit on, I asked where he thought he was going! Never been in the seats before he said! ...... Then I told him he was in the fulwell end, he got changed pretty quick lol
Born in Blyth, Dad and his Dad were from Silksworth so Sunderland through and through, Mam and her family were from Blyth so mags, my mams side of the family (and there were lots) tried all ways to get me to support the mags, think i even went to St James twice with my cousin before i went to Roker, but i was probably already a Sunderland supporter before that deep down. But it could have been so much different. My Brother supports Sunderland as well, but he did support Shef Wed for a time in his early teens, not a clue why though.
Not a lot of xhoice really, being from Fulwell, and a 5 minute walk to the ground where half the family worked, plus the added bonus of never having to pay to go to a match.
My Dad took me to my first game in 72, and I was hooked from then on. Been a rocky ride since then but I wouldn't have it any other way, it's one of the joys of being a fan of the great SAFC......
When I was a schoolboy and had my dad to support my finances I used to watch both Middlesbrough and Sunderland. Once I started working I had to choose one or the other. I chose Sunderland simply because the atmosphere at Roker Park was always much better than at Ayresome Park.
First game - 1981 vs Wimbledon (think it was 81!!) Dad took me and we stood in the Roker end. Gary Bennett hit a shot from the centre circle (it seemed like the centre circle but I was 6 so it was probably the edge of the box!!) That was it - I loved the atmosphere and the people I stood with at the match. Fell in love with the club from that moment. Never experienced St James' Park in the home end - can't say I'm disappointed - but my Dad would never go there as he hates the maggie bastards (and that has also run in the family!!)
Was born on a saterday, same day as my aunt and uncle got married, he reconed before he died, that he should have gone to the match instead, good enough for him good enough for me, you can take the man out of Millfied, but you cant take Millfield out of the man.
Family tradition so far as I`m concerned - Dad from Roker (could turn the lights off in the kitchen if the floodlights were turned on at Roker Park), Mum from Herrington - both sides of the family are Red and White. Moved south when I was just 3 but can`t shake it off - brother similarly afflicted. Since my kids were born (now 5 and 7) I have tried to brain wash them and it seems to be paying off - although explaining to a 5 year old that "Sunderland are the best team in the world" gets tough when his mates all seem to support Man United and when they beat Arsenal 8-2 the same weekend we draw with Swansea!! The other problem I have is that when Gyan buggered off I had to try and explain why someone who was a great player one day became an arse the next!! (Think I got away with it!).
Born Sunderland, lived there till I was 21, moved away. Always was Sunderland, always will be Sunderland (even though I think the city centre is a **** hole.... apart from the Bridges). I cannot stand these glory hunters.
