If I read the OP correctly, EoS is asking why the fans were singing songs about pompey at a friendly.

I ask myself the exact same question about every game we play. I hate all the anti pompey songs with a passion (except when we actually play them, then I sing them with a passion!)

If I'm wrong and the Op is asking why we were singing songs at a football match, then :headbang:

You're complaining that the Saints fans were singing??! Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Can you imagine a football match without any songs? Not only does it create a better atmosphere, it made last nights game feel more competitive and it is good for the new players to become familiar with the atmosphere at St Mary's. I wouldn't even say the singing was that loud and it was only occasional last night, I could hear the calls and shouting from the players on the pitch, although I was sat in the Kingsland

My first thread because I should c u next Tuesday. Going to a football match is all about singing and laughing, it's entertainment! It also encourages the players, you should think yourself lucky you get to go to games, I and many other Saints live abroad and can't get to games.

I enjoy the occasional sing-song a a friendly, but the problem was there were a massive group of young lads under 15 that were doing it all game. But i'd rather we sang all match than didnt sing at all.

Why is it a problem that under 15s are singing songs all game?

I don't join in with any of the Pompey songs and can't understand why we sing it either. Maybe when we are playing them but not at a game such as the memorial tournament for example, which I felt sort of disrespected the occasion, even though I know it wasn't set out to.

Agreed, if no one else is singing, whats the problem with them singing....at least they are trying to create an atmosphere - good on them

I find people are so negative towards our younger fans. Anything they would say on this forum would be dismissed immediately on the basis that they are 'young' I have been following 606 from the age of around 15 and it was incredible how negative people are towards youth! I say fair play to them and keep the songs (and their ticket money) coming!

I thought the Chapel produced about the same level of sound as usual. <whistle>
I think we were in good voice last season and the OWTS was good at times. I do wish we could find a song which we could keep singing and build.
Leeds will no doubt keep going with their, "we all love Leeds, we all love Leeds". Very simple but it keeps going and makes it more difficult for us to get
going.

That is it then.

The only people who should be allowed to sing are those over 45 with nice voices and who will sing really nice and happy friendly songs.

It is not nice being beastly to those jolly nice polite Pompey supporters.

You never ever hear them singing nasty songs about us or calling us insultingly rude foul mouthed names.

Oh dear oh Dear.....so not only is the complaints about singing at a friendly..........it is also about what they actually sang. Good heavens to murgatroyd what are we going to say next!!!!! We must learn to blow a whistle before we fart????
Come on guys and gals....... it was some young Saints out for the evening to enjoy themselves.......So they thought it the right thing to do to sing nasty songs about our Brothers down the road...........So what!! Where was the harm.....did they stop you seeing the match? Did they somehow spoil your evening? I somehow doubt it........Have you forgotten what it is to be young and impressionable? Oh Gawd help us..........

Yeah, those simple songs/chants are really good....you keep them going for ages and the oppo fans just cant get a word in

Why don't we basically join in with them, will sound like the whole stadium singin the same song 'til we put alot of emphasis on SAINTS and drown them out for it!!!
