On matchdays Manchester Airport is usually full of arrivals of Utd fans coming to watch the match, as is Manchester Piccadilly train station. I know this having worked at both and noticing the change in tourists visiting the city whenever Utd were playing at Old Trafford as there is no direct station from the south to Trafford where the stadium is based.

Also a friend of mine, who is neither Red nor Blue, works at the MegaStore in Stretford. According to her she very rarely encounters a Mancunian accent.

Even United themselves have stated that around 19,000 of their 68,000 season ticket holders are based in the Manchester Area. In contrast City announced recently that around 32,000 of their 39,000 season tickets holders were from the Manchester area. United fans can try and shake off the assumption all they like, but they cannot deny their fanbase, They are very popular down south and those fans buy tickets as do those from Ireland, in fact any United fan who DOESN'T admit to their large Irish contingency knows nothing about their own club.

The United fans I know, the ones who actually DO go to the stadium like my broither-in-law, are fed up with what they call 'JCL's' or "Johnny Come Latelies". According to him they are the ones responsible for the failure of the Greean and Yellow campaign and the poor atmosphere at OT. He doesn't believe United fans aren't in Manchester but he does agree that those Mancunian United fans cannot get to Old Trafford because of these JCL's. Or at least that's his excuse."
