I disagree Marcus, I think you can still buy players at that price that would be better suited to this league that what has been bought by Moyes. Sam did a pretty good job working in that price bracket. Djilobodji is a million miles away from a premier league player right now, but as I said in my original post, in time he may well prove to be a great buy...just right now...no chance. But this game is all about opinion.

Sunderland are weighing up a January move for FC Copenhagen striker Federico Santander - but face tough competition for his signature. Premier League rivals Everton and Swansea City plus French side Lyon are also tracking the 25-year-old. There will be no sale for winter. We can not just sell and sell and sell STALE SOLBAKKEN Sunderland are understood to have sent scouts to watch Santander in Champions League Group G action against Club Brugge last night. The Danish side are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions, their most recent defeat coming in May. And frontman Santander has caught the eye, with Sunderland in desperate need of reinforcements up front, with the Black Cats among the lowest scorers in the top flight. Sunderland are currently relying on Jermain Defoe, who has scored four league goals in six games, with Fabio Borini out injured for a further two months. Victor Anichebe arrived on a free in the summer but Sunderland failed to land the proven goalscorer the squad was lacking to help assist Defoe. Speaking after his side chucked away a 2-0 lead against Crystal Palace, Moyes said: “We’re going to have to improve on what we’ve got to give ourselves a chance.” Santander has scored six goals and provided three assists in 17 appearances so far this campaign, with three goals in his last two matches. FC Copenhagen manager Stale Solbakken, who had a short spell in charge of Wolves in 2012, has ruled out a January move for his star striker. But the Danish side may find it hard to keep hold of their prize asset when Premier League clubs come calling when the transfer window reopens. Solbakken said: “There will be no sale for winter. We can not just sell and sell and sell. He has only been here one-and-a-half years, so it is not raised.” The Paraguayan international, who scored 17 goals in 36 appearances last season for FC Copenhagen, previously played for Toulouse before joining the Danish outfit. Meanwhile, free agent Pedro Carneiro, a former Manchester City prospect, is trying to win a contract with the Black Cats. The 18-year-old Portuguese midfielder has also been linked to Portuguese giants Benfica. Sunderland have also been linked with a six-month loan move for former Liverpool midfielder Joao Teixeira in January. The 23-year-old is yet to make an appearance for Portugese giants Porto after signing for the club in the summer after his release from Liverpool. Teixeira failed to make an impact on Merseyside and was loaned out to Brentford and Brighton during his three-year spell in the North West.

Sam did great with Kobe. Kirchhoff was cheap cos of injury. Khazri was 9m but looks a 2m at best player now. And apparently Kone is owned by a third party? (Rumour I heard this morning)

Although you are also talking about a manager from last seasons budget - players have more than doubled in cost since the close season due to the big money deal this season.

Is that really the standard we`re aiming for?

Released by Liverpool, loaned to those two PL giants Brentford & Brighton and can`t get on the pitch at Porto.

Tell you what @commachio1 I despair if we really are looking at players of that calibre.

Must be bullshit - pretty sure you can only loan 2 players domestically from the PL unless the rules have changed - already got Denayer and Januzaj

Again Marcus, just my opinion ....I think a good manager will be able to search out these kinds of player in a way Sam did. Not every player that is premier quality has to 15m plus...no way. For the record, I don't believe for one second that Kone is owned by a third party..he has just signed a longer and larger contract, if that was the case our club would be in deep sh!t....not even Sunderland are that dim.

I agree but I still think, had we waited until now, there is no way Kone would've been less than £10m - maybe even £15m - it's a totally different market now and prices have gone up as Sky have put the prize money up. As for the Kone thing - TBH I heard a few here mention it and have seen some on Facebook (mainly mags) saying the club should be docked points and investigated for the transfers (yes docked points first for having corrupt Allardyce as a manager then investigated for any potentially dodgy dealings!) so pinch of salt really.

Those on FB shouting for us to be docked points need to be careful what they wish for.

8 PL managers to be named yet.

Sam wouldn't be immune the price hikesof this summer though though. The price went up for everybody. Kone would have cost us around 10-12m had we bought him this Summer, Khazri around 15m. Can't just pretend we'd somehow be able to avoid the inflation with a few savy signings. We couldn't have. Every club on the globe we're quoting price hikes for Premier League teams and clubs that had delt with premier league teams.
