I don't think anyone's been "gotten to" by that. I hope not, anyway. Like you, I just can't quite believe a grown man would stoop to using "virgin" as an insult. As for GTA, it is a silly game but I see the fun in it. I don't think it has anything to do with fantasizing about violence, as everything about the game is so ridiculous that you can't draw any conclusions about it based on reality. It's no more twisted than enjoying a Tarantino film, or Game of Thrones for that matter.
You are everything wrong with the world. ____________________________________ Ken, that was your quote, whether you meant it tongue in cheek is not for me to judge. Its a video game, he's an adult, where's the harm?
I did go on to qualify it by saying how it was an exaggeration sir. I also mentioned how I feel that GTA is a bad representation of the games industry. It's generally bad press for the number of developers who are creating pieces of intelligent, imaginative storytelling or innovative sandbox experiences. I feel like the attitude expressed in the original quote holds back the medium and makes it a juvenile pastime which, in turn, creates negative perceptions. That's all I have to say on it. Because GTA 5(?) will do a multi-million dollar release later this year and the wheel will keep on turning. That's just my feeling on it. I don't care for it, or the way the thought was expressed. And I think that smiley is kinda funny.
I'll be honest with you. On the whole, I do find Godder's threads to be of an articulate nature and highly humerous. However, I think this one scrapes the barrel rather a lot. To be fair to him and because usually, his posts bring a wry smile to my face - I am willing to put this thread down to a bad day at the office for Godders. The occasional off day is only natural and for that we should give him the benefit of doubt. How's that for diplomacy!
Talking of GTA, I feel the need to post this song from GTA3 (back when they had original soundtracks). What a tune.
This thread is GRADE-A! We got four pages out of this! Come on, it's way better than threads about spotting Ramirez in Greggs buying a sausage roll or whatever the usual gumpf is that gets posted in the post-season.
I used to play rods in the Bitterne Park in the sixties, (when it was a proper pub, anyone else remember the best juker in the world?), does that qualify as a fantasy football player??
I did my penance for that post but interestingly you didn't post the rather offensive posts that triggered it. When I was a young man I spent my time working, playing football, studying, in the pub or shagging and I would be the same today. No time left in that busy schedule to spend hours playing computer games.
Also the disparaging tone used when slating a whole fan-base as 'nerds' seems to imply that intelligence is an undesirable trait when in my opinion it is quite the opposite. Again that is just my opinion however and I'd be quite the hypocrite if I told Godders he was wrong for stating his.
My son plays these type of games. I was brought up in the earlier days of computer games and I used to play them. Hugely addictive they were, and I stopped when I realised that I could spend hours playing then and feel a bit like I had wasted the afternoon. Still each to his own, but if someone is playing FM when outside is experiencing one of the few lovely sunny days of the year in Southampton, then you are really missing something. As for Godders, the delicious irony that his thread suggesting we don't talk about something has led to lots of extra talking about that very thing cannot be lost on anyone, surely?
I find gaming completely boring, childish and a waste of time. And I do know all about them having got 4 kids ranging from 24 to 12. That said it is none of mine or anyone else's god damn business what people like or don't like. The world would be a really boring place if we all liked the same thing. Plus I don't want a load of "gamers" filling up the pubs and messing up my free time. I always pop out Sunday afternoon for a few sherbets , tasting a few real ales , chewing the fat with some old buddies and chilling. Its particulary nice this time of year as we sit outside watching the world (and a few fit chicks) go by. One pub has bands on Sunday lunch and the sound of decent rock music drifts out the windows to the quayside tables whilst we while away a few hours away from the snap dragons . The last thing we want is a load of spotty geeks knee deep at the bar, discussing how many hookers they've taken hostage or how they've taken Leamington Spa to the champions league final.
I am beginning to think this thread should actually be in Beefy's corner. It has moved away from the OP's original point somewhat.......lets try and move it back on please!
Why? The conversation has actually evolved into something genuine, rather than "you're all virgin nerds" "no we're not" "yes you are", literally nobody minds that the subject has somewhat altered.
Suggest you look at my inbox then.........and official complaints.........It still is not football related and that is what Beefy's corner is all about!
