The "moany old bastards" on here really only need to be older than 27 to have missed the expanding popularity of video games as a central entertainment on par with books or TV. My co-workers who are only a few years older than me would never play a game or listen to a podcast as a way of passing time. They wouldn't be on Twitter either. When I was training as a teacher I wrote a paper about how this generational gap is important to be aware of. It has affected people's methods of learning no end. Not for the worse, it's just different.
Do not care a jot if playing Football Manager makes me sad. The feeling I had when Rickie Lambert scored a 93rd minute free kick from 25 yards out to win 3-2 away at Fratton Park on the final day of the season to win promotion by a point on FM12 was worth the purchase price alone.
I struggle to find the relevance or purpose of this thread. If you don't like a thread, don't post within it, or even better, just ignore it. I've seen the Football Manager thread come up many times, yet I don't ever post in it because I don't play the game and therefore can't form an opinion. However, I think it's very ignorant to generalise and belittle the people that have chosen a past-time that they clearly enjoy. Each to the own I say, everyone's entitled to do whatever the f**k they like so long as it doesn't cause harm to anyone else.
How very boring that would be, if points of view were never challenged. Now Mr. Godders has chosen to go about it in a rather confrontational way but it could be an avenue for reasonable conversation. Instead what happens it you get a thread full of ladies who really doth protest too much!
I can't see an avenue for reasonable conversation here. What I see is a man making presumptions about people who play a certain video game and posting about it online because he's bored and needs something better to do with his time like, oh I don't know, playing a video game. Why anyone would be bothered about what other people choose to do with their free time is beyond me. I doubt there's a single person on here who could honestly say they haven't spent countless unproductive hours staring at a TV screen, and that goes for people of all ages. There's plenty of reasonable conversation on this website, and that's why I frequent it, but this particular thread is not going to give me anything of the sort.
The off topic thread is all about what people are doing in their free time. As is the original "Lets Talk Football Manager" post. So, people are interested.
And if you disagree with me i'll knock those google glasses of your head and run them over on my segway! Vrooooom!
There's a subtle difference between talking about common interests and slagging off people who have different interests. Subtle, but important.
It would give me immense satisfaction if I found out that Mrs. Godders actually didn't exist, and Mr. Godders was actually the virgin
It may suprise you, but Grand Theft Auto is quite a popular franchise, and I suspect it wasn't played by Ariel Castro, Fritzel... but if you still think I'm everything that's wrong with the world because I play GTA, then that's up to you.
FACT: I'm not a virgin, I've 3 kids, not married but long term partner, I have played FM since Championship Manager 93 and have purchased approximately every other version, I am currently playing FM 2012, I have never posted on the other thread about FM, I am in my 30s and before my dad passed away, my brother, my dad and myself used to play once a week on the same PC as well as having my own game. All I can say is if you have yet to try it, get a copy now, you can pick up a slightly older version pretty cheap, if you don't love it at least you can have a more informed discussion about it if you so wish.
Birmingham actually. I wasn't actually that young, especially by today's standards, but it was too early within the relationship, so I totally regret it and wish I'd waited longer. But like I said, virginity is a state of mind, so as far as I'm concerned I'm still a virgin!
No, I understand GTA is popular, with all it's hamfisted storytelling and immaturity. However the issue I have is the way the game to you is just a juvenile toy to live out a fantasy of violence. It propagates a stereotype which goes hand in hand with the "old bastard" perception of video games. Everything wrong with the world was an exaggeration. Joe - I see that, but to me, because I'm not one to get uppity if someone implies I am a 'virgin' (as I already discussed above, it's one of the silliest insults possible to be ascribed to someone) this thread is nothing more than a criticism of a product. Just like I might say: "I don't like Game of Thrones". Or: "Guly is a bad player and has a poor workrate" (He doesn't ). By the way, I think the fact that so many people seem to have been so defensive and 'gotten to' by just one sentence is REALLY funny.
Also, it's approximately 1 BAJILLION degrees this week, and it's not safe to go outside or your dry hair will ignite and then your head will be on fire. So I'ma just enjoy this thread.
I love that "Helping the homeless" is a concept akin to RELIGIOUS STUDIES! One of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't seem to belong! Nah, people are welcome to play it, as I said, it's not for me. I just have a strong distaste for the brazen: "You can kill a bunch of passers by with a giant dildo! Fun!"-type stuff. It's juvenile. Also, why would you want to do that?
