Why is American Football called football when the foot is not used on the ball? (Except when there is a penalty kick/conversion type thing) where someone sits on the bench and gets paid an extortionate amount to come on, kick the ball and go off again.
Now I know there are millions of people, who for some reason like this game, where players use their hands to send long passes to each other, but personally I can’t stand it.
So why is it called football?

Even it's alternative name "gridiron" doesn't make much sense. I can see the grid but where is the iron?

I think he is sharing his knowledge from the High Security Wing of Glanrhyd Hospital. He only walks among us when accompanied by 2 carers and then only 1/2 mile each way along Tondu Road.

I'm pretty sure the World Series name came about because it was started or sponsored by a newspaper or something of the same name???

Could be wrong but I'm sure I read something like that somewhere before...

As for US football, I do actually quite like it. I really got into it in the 80's when it kind of exploded over here via the then very new channel 4.

Used to love sitting up with my brother's and sister till the early morning to watch the Superbowl.. rare treat of a takeaway burger and a sip or two of lager... Quite a big deal for a young teen

I got into it via Channel 4. Quite enjoyed the highlights programmes.
Struggle to watch live games as it takes so long.
3+ hours for a 60 minute game.
Nearly as long as footy when VAR is involved.

Used to be back and fore the states in the early 90s on business.
A few times I got asked if I boxed, because of my not straight nose and slight cauliflower ears.
When I told them I played rugby they thought I was mad because I 'didn't wear any padding'.

An easy way to wind yanks up was to ask them 'what's the score in the rounders?'. They didn't like that.
