Possibly because my girlfriend is from Hertfordshire and we often holiday in Cornwall. I'm sure the north's not too bad it's just the places I've been have mostly been grim apart from the Lake District and parts of Northumbria.
OK, only thing I know about Tring is that there is a famous grave in the churchyard with a tree growing out of it and legend has it that the bird buried there said "if there is a god, a tree will grow out of my grave" or something to that effect. I think it was Tring. There, not too painful was it.
It's most famous for the School of Performing arts where people such as Julie Andrews and Thandie Newton attended. It's also home to a few rich footballers.
There's always some bog ape stirring the hatred 5h1t, quickly followed by the skirt wearers snide comment. If you want to know the answer why don't you ask the thousands of your contradictory countrymen who live in England.
I can see why we'd be hated by the other countries in GB for obvious reasons but not by the rest of the world. We're not that bad are we? Take for instance our players. Call me biased if you like but I think the way they conduct themselves in international competition is for the most part admiral compared to others - we rarely dive, feign injury, brandish imaginary cards at the refs or generally cheat to further ourselves. Funny how the 2 representatives that have come out and criticised the F.A. are those from probably the 2 worst countries for that kind of cheating behaviour in players - Argentina and Spain. Perhaps a cultural mindset drilled into these representatives who would rather keep their cheating in FIFA as it is? And then contrastingly the country with players who generally play fair, would rather do the honourable and correct thing and allow a delay for the investigation into the corruption to be sorted.
Spurtle, I think what you are trying to say is that: we English play fair, we play by the rules and we'll always give a man the chance to win his freedom even if he is a bog-trotter, you can't say fairer than that. So let's all raise a potato to the OP and celebrate as he pours out his bitterness on our internet. Hip Hip.
stopmeandslapme - Yes pretty much what I was trying to say. We are a fair bunch of people. Apparently that's not what's liked in the world so it's time we started being mean bastards!
Do people really hate us or is that just what lazy journalists at the tabloids and crap comedians would have you believe? There will be some animosity from our neighbours but every country in the world has a dig at its neighbours. The Yanks and Canadians are always at it. Do we not have an unnatural dislike of the French? Why? Because the Sun told us to. Have any of you met a Frenchman who was particularly dislikeable? I haven't. I know plenty of Sweaties who have no problem with the English.
As a NE-erner we were once in Scotland and in Sunderland we supported Scottish 'republican' invaders trying to free us from the mantle of surfdom, we tend to get accepted by the Scots and the Irish too for that matter. Can't stand the ****ing Welsh though - sheep shagging, hymn singing nonces.
