Why didn't we stick with 3-5-2?

My comment implied that anytime we use use 3-5-2 we get whines about how the other team have found us out.

Because 4-4-2 is always so difficult to deal with.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

You saying that they would have whined IF we'd used it two games in a row, when we DID use it two games in a row...

    Semantics. You're a boring WUM.

If you push too high up the pitch then it leaves vast amounts of space behind the wing-backs which can be easily exploited by an opposition player with a simple pass over the top into one of the channels.

Think that's the reasoning behind it.

To be fair I know of the reasoning, but you have 3 CBs and 3 in CM which should deal with any such threat, unless they play with their heads up their arses and are not aware of the requirement to cover for the breakaway (Cissé against us at Newcastle - although he just ripped it down the middle and we would not have got near him with 5 at the back!). All formations have their strengths and weaknesses, we should learn to minimise one and maximise the other; it's a coaching responsibility prior to the game and a player responsibility once the whistle blows.
