Considering our performances and final position in the table over the last couple of years I think we have done well in bringing in who we have. To attract the quality you are thinking of you either need to spend stupid money or at least have been challenging for promotion recently. I think we could do well this season and surprise ourselves but like most others I would be happy with remaining in the top half of the table for the majority of the season. If we're not constantly looking over our shoulder at relegation that will be progress and thus make ourselves more attractive to better players. If we are in a strong position at christmas we could strengthen then too. Why is it everything has to be done now, have just a little bit of patience will you, jeez.
Why cant we get top players at Ipswich....well its probably got something to do with the fact that we are not a top side!!!
That's Clegg's fault as well... Famine in East Africa - Clegg Euro debt crisis - Clegg NOTW scandal - Clegg My angry girlfriend on the rag - Clegg White horse having the arsehole - Clegg Norwich getting promoted - Clegg Anyone not understanding sarcasm - Clegg
White Horse, what is the colour of the sky on your planet? Or is there a split personality issue going on here. Personally, I am optimistic and can't wait for the season to start!! Let's just wait and see what we can do when the time comes shall we?
"why cant we get top players at ipswich ???" Because your Ipswich... And this "White" bloke, is he IpswichCrazy? Cos he's a bit of a boon
white horse, let me continue this debate by firstly describing you as an absolute clown. I wouldn't normally go straight in and say that, however you point is ridiculous at best. Wright Phillips !?!? Do me a favour ( cockney style ! ) he's way out of our league !!!! How on earth could we finance the lad ?? As a previous poster has stated 3 / 5 signings are pure quality. Boywer + Chopra in my eyes are 2 of the best 30 or so players in the entire division in midfield + attack. I do agree with you that at the minute I'm unsure as to how our season will go. However, I believe there will be another 4 or so players on their way in. We haven't spent any of the Wickham sale + we would have had money to spend anyway. The only absolute WOW signing that MAY be remotely possible ( and I would give this a 2% chance of happening ) is Gio Dos Santos coming back on loan. He WILL HAVE to leave Spurs either on loan or permanently due to him having a work permit. Therefore, it seems logical to me that he COULD go out on loan again. Spurs may want to hang onto him for the future ( Redknapp doesn't like his off the pitch attitude, have to applaud Harry there )
Westlake, You may not agree with what Horse is saying but there really is no need to start name calling. This kind of behaviour can be reserved for the playground. Let's not take to in-fighting over a difference of opinion. Making thoughtful, constructive criticism is one thing, mud slinging is another.
Well if your going to come out with the most ridiculous things then expect to be labelled a clown! There is nothing logical to state at least 2 of our players aren't quality.
Although the 'Glass half Empty' view championed by White Horse is somewhat negative, I have to agree (in a small part) with some of it's sentiments. Comparing ourselves to other Championship sides we simply are not as attractive a proposition. Not just because of Money. I am incredibly glad we're not doing a Leicester and throwing money around, but we've missed out on some decent signings not just this summer (if anything less so this summer) due to the great work Paul Jewell has done, but looking back you have to admit there are a few cases where we were pipped to the post. I know all football fans believe their club is the greatest and I believe Ipswich are a fantastic club but we've been in this division for 10 years and quite honestly Ipswich as a Town isn't attracting big names, that is the reason why neither Ipswich or Norwich are likely to hit dizzying heights of European football again. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, it's late and I've been working my bollocks off at football training so before I bore anyone to tears I bid ye farewell.
That ****ing cat's back Now how did he do that I put my foot right up his bum And kicked the **** to kingdom come Now where the **** did he come from That ****ing cat's back...
I'd give the Gio deal a 0% chance of happening. Gio has said that he wants to go back to play in Northern Spain and is having interest shown by clubs like Udinese, with fees around £10M being mentioned. We were lucky to have him before but no way will he return. Although I'd love to be proved wrong. As for Shaun Wright-Phillips! Has anyone seen his pre season goals? A couple of crackers from ridiculously far out as well. I think he will have a bigger part to play for Man City this season, either that or move to a top half prem side. Our signings so far have pleased me. To get 5 good players in by this time is very good management and I expect we will sign Boateng sometime today and Ched Evans shortly after. However, we are still lacking and even if we bring in another CB, winger, midfielder and striker as PJ has said he wants I think we will still have a squad which on paper would only rate as 7th or 8th best in the league. We will need to make up for our weaknesses in other areas, ie good management, luck, team spirit, support etc. and hope that other teams falter but I have faith in PJ and expect we will make play offs.
Scratch that, Boateng is reportedly joining Forest. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be this seasons Shaun Derry!
What???!!! You would rather have Boateng than Derry We've only replaced Norris imo. Our squad needs another 4-5 players and probably a captain. It's very frustrating with only 2 weeks to go. Why are we not spending the Wickham fee? Chopra & Bowyer are excellent additions, we need more players of this calibre if we want to finish in the top half. We're not as strong as last season at this moment, get some decent players in Town!
BM, iIt would seem that we are trying to spend to money received through Wickham's departure but have been unable to agree a deal. As such, my concern would not be why are we not investing but are we going to get any further quality in the squad before the season kicks off.
I meant Boateng could be considered 'the one that got away' as Derry was last season. We desperately need a defensive minded mid and Boateng would have been good for a year, although missing out on Boateng is not as big of an issue as Derry was as I'm sure PJ will find an alternative. Keane had plan A and then nothing. Suprised Boateng went to Forest, I can't imagine he would get into their midfield with McKenna, McGugan, Moussi etc already there.
Hot off TWTD, we didn't bid for Ched Evans! We have put in a bid for a new striker, I likes a good mystery wooo! Can't think at the mo about any decent right sided centre-backs, we sure do need one according to the reports from Cambridge, mucho worry! Defensive midfielder required too! - Kennedy until we get a loan in? No wideman required, just play O'Connor ffs!!!!!!!!!! Civelli Hyam Peters O'Connor (mistake) Healy Hourihaine All look set for the chop........ Probable team for Bristol thus far Fulop Edwards Ingarmarsson Delaney Kennedy Carson Bowyer Leadbitter Martin Chopra ???? IF Jewell plays 4-5-1 at home again I will freak out
I don't think Healy will leave, he's been pretty involved in pre season unlike the others you've mentioned, makes a decent back up IMO Interesting that Jewell has stated Ched is on the list but we've not bid for him, making him 3rd or 4th option and hopefully meaning our preferred targets are of better quality. Don't agree that Shane O'Connor is the answer to the winger problem, he tries hard but lacks quality and strength. Jewell wants men not boys.
