Ignoring the technicalities of strategy, position etc, what Ozil's signing has done is transformed the club. It has sent out a message to every footballing financial superpower that we're here and we mean business, it's given the current players an unbelievable lift and it's given the fans something serious to look forward to. The more cynical amongst us might consider this a move by AW to remove some heat off him as the fans outlook will now be focussed firmly on Ozil and the team. Anyone remembering the Bergkamp signing will remember the atmosphere changed immediately and the fans celebrated his presence, Ozil will have exactly the same effect, it really has changed the entire outlook of the club IMO
The power of fan positivity, to me, is more important than many give it credit for. That Arsenal supporters have been amongst the most unhappy in the Premier League for a number of seasons now can't (and certainly shouldn't) have gone unnoticed by the club, and would maybe go a way to explain why Arsenal's home form hasn't been up to scratch in recent years. Admittedly, I wasn't too fussed about the idea of a huge signing but to see how the Ozil signing has stirred up (most) fans is heartening and an effect I overlooked. The team now need to keep up good form to cement it, which'll be easier with Ozil in the squad.
