Born in Neath, just up from the Gnoll and saw my first Swans game in 67. Left Wales in 1980 after doing a degree at the Poly of Wales in Treforest. Got a job in London and met my wife at the same place - now sell IT systems to earn a crust. I now live in Hertfordshire but still have family in Neath.
what was that like Jager, was looking at doing that from the other way from beijing, day trip to nth korea and the express to russia then a baltic cruise
I'm from Gowerton, did all my schooling there, but family are originally from Mumbles and Townhill. worked in my dads shop in skewen every saturday morning. saw my first game i think in 68, it was the famous arsenal game. moved to London to go to uni in 1980, back in the good old days of full grant - main reason for going to London was that i wanted to be in a punk band and thats where it was all happening, did every kind of job going to support my unsuccessful music career - failed at everything, moved to HK in 1996, and am now a commercial photographer. looking forward to coming back for a couple of weeks this august, hope i can get to see a game
I lived near the Knoll, just round the corner from the Tennis Courts, in Beachwood Ave, for about 5yrs, lovely spot it was too!...............
Hell how did you do that!...................... PS: Wigan are at it again, man how many lives can this team have?.................
Born in Swansea, used to catch the bus to the vetch stand on the East terrace at age 10 2 bob to get in. Supported the swans my whole life and moved to canada 6 days after we won fricking promotion to the first division in 1981. Came back to swansea for a couple of year 86-88 then back to Canada Travel a lot with the job - been to Aus 4 times will go again next year as well as NZ - both great places - really get a kick out of going to those places the cowboys were in the US and having some Red Indians for friends. Stopped off a few weeks ago in macon georgia to see Otis Reddings birthplace. Never - didn't you once do a commentary on the old Evening Post blog that we all used be able to real time message - Boy played football maybe a goalie??
never been to the gold coast Musty, the cleaners opposite Cresci's Phill, i did look forward to my shift every saturday, chelsea buns for brekkie from the cake shop followed by Cresci's fish and chips for lunch!
there's hardly any houses in the urban areas but plenty in the new territories or the outlying islands. in fact some areas are breathtaking in their beauty with natural scenery and beaches to match the best in Gower, the shocking air pollution alas is even more breathtaking
I was in Leonard Street Phil 2 streets past the rugby ground off Gnoll Park Rd so not that far away used to play tennis on those courts and walked past Beechwood Ave on my up to the Gnoll for a kickabout
I did it in 96 and things have changed since then, but put this way after eating the food at stops throughout the trip I spent many hours on the toilet afterwards, not a pleasant introduction to china me thinks lol If you are going to do it make sure you travel first class, don't consider anything else. Also take your own drinks and as much food as you can that you can keep fresh for as long as possible. And take things to do like crosswords etc Funny you mention North Korea I was looking at packages to visit there a few days ago
As you walk away from the tennis courts into Beachwood, I used to live on the right about 5 doors in from the corner, I would often take a walk up the Gnoll with my wife, not long married then, talking mid 1980's!...............
