Why are half the people on here STILL being pessimistic?

.....Because experience of football tells you not to jump to conclusions after 6 games....If City are in the top four on 1/1/13 I'll be getting excited.

Beryl has got them all playing out their skin.
I know that Fryup is a good player, shame he was mediocre under mediocre managers (NP and NB)
it will be interesting to see what he is like under a top class manager like Beryl.

Think Fryatt would score a ****load in this system, strike partner, plenty of service, plenty of movement to distract defenders. He will really flourish when he returns. Think he'll set a few up too because he has that knack of moving out to the channels with the ball, coming inside at the byline and pulling one back where in this formation there's plenty of people waiting to prod it home.

    BUT who would you replace?
    Simpson - impossible.
Aluko - Proving a great striker partner for Simmo at the moment
Koren - Best player we have
    Quinn - Superb signing
Olifinjana - Been a tank since he's returned and easily backed up by McKenna and Evans
Wing backs - Can't replace them either.

At the moment; can't see him getting a place unless it's sat on his arse on the bench, as a big fan of the lad too.

As good as Simpson has been recently Fryatt is still a better player, but assuming he was fit now, I wouldn't drop him straight in ahead of Simpson, I'd make him fight for it off the bench, but I'm sure he'd get the place. If it came down to it I'd stick him up top ahead of Aluko, Matty is our best natural frontman IMO.

Seconded, he'd have to earn his way back into the first team and I'm sure he would. This system suits him.

But the thing is, as I always say, he just doesn't have the composure in front of goal. When he goes through on goal he fails to even get a shot off more often than not. His movement and everything is good but the finishing just isn't there. Last season there were countless games (and I pointed them all out at the time) were we could have won 3 or 4 nil but ended up losing 1-0 because we missed so many chances, and he was the biggest culprit. I know he scored some as well, but he had way more chances than anyone else, and of the ones he did score there were loads of lucky ones that were right next to the keeper. He never hit the corners like Simpson does.

I think Simpson's been great lately. He's given us everything Fryatt offers with all the running and stuff but he's just got a bit more quality. With the team as good as it is now, it'd be a massive shame if we started spoiling it by missing chances like we did last year. At the moment every one of our starting XI has quality on the ball even down to the centre backs. It's no coincidence that we're suddenly really clinical with our passing and shooting. Bringing Fryatt in for Simpson would just spoil it.

EDIT: I know there'll be at least some tears about me saying this, but it's a relevant point of discussion and if people can say he's better than Simpson, I don't see why I can't say they're wrong.

What I would say youve got there ISTPLT is a total load of waffle. Fryatt no composure? You have noticed he places his shots, usually into the corners, every single time? He never blasts them, that is showing composure. Simpson has already missed sitters this season.

Fryatt's going to have to work hard to get back into the team, the way we're playing at the moment it's not fair on the current first 11 to drop them for a returning player.

Simpson is in form and shouldn't be dropped, even if Fryatt was fit.

I never said he should be dropped, I said if fit I'm sure he'd work his way back in as regardless of how Simpsons playing, Fryatt is still the better player.

Depends what Bruce thinks, we've never seen the real Jay Simpson under the previous two managers. Jay may prove to be a better player than Matt this season. Either way, it will be great to have them fighting for a starting place.

Matty will have to sit it out on the bench for a while IMO . Can't see SB dropping Simpson in a hurry, the way all the lads are" gelling "together.
When Matty does get off the bench he'll be expected to work his shift and not sniff around for scraps.
I like Matty but the way this team is playing, who would you drop to make way for him? Honestly.
As i've said on previous threads, football today is a squad game. I remember watching long before substitutes were allowed. If you lost a man to injury, then 10 men were left to fight it out.

I agree Fryatt playing with this new crop of players could be something special. JS though does give a different dimension to our play, long may it continue.

If we drop Simpson while he's playing this well just because Matty 'might do better' it would be a disgrace. Yes Simmo might fall out of form or get injured and then Matty can come back in but until this happens it is impossible.

Sorry but that just isn't true. Can you remind me of a goal he's scored where he's either struck the ball cleanly or accurately into a corner of the goal. I bet you I can name more where he's mishit the ****er than you can name good shots. And that's just his goals, never mind all the misses.

It's a complete myth that Fryatt is some kind of 'natural' finisher. People seem to be convinced by just the numbers but most of them are lucky goals, against Barnsley last season he got a hat-trick without having a decent shot all game. Everyone ignored the glaring miss just before his first goal and the fact that the 3 goals he did score were all crap shots which happened to go in.
