Because Rose has shown how much better he is? Or because BAE hasn't given us years of very consistent performances?
Getting 60% of decisions right is World Class performance so 4 being worth more than we paid for them would be a great result. We will also get some of the sell on decisions wrong too - we will probably sell two of them and at least one will turn out to be fantastic for a future team. But it was still very good business. Better to have a chance of 4 out of 7 rather than having all our eggs in one basket.
Fair enough if you think so but I'm still not convinced. I feel like I can still count the good crosses he's put in on one hand. But I do think he's improving. Personally I'd still rather have BAE around.
I don't think we will see BAE in the first team again under AVB,nothing against BAE ijust think Rose is the better option now
Or 7 could suceed or 7 could flop, or 3, or 5 or who knows! If you believe that the past tells the future perhaps you also believe in fairies! On the other hand we have 7 different individuals, all with talent who may or may not suceed, we will have to see.
Assessing new players maybe premature, the same could be said of 'signing of the season' Baldini, but I am left wondering why we've bought so many similar players, we seem to have 4 players now who play best in a No.10 type role, and Eriksen aside, they don't interchange into the other forward roles too well it seems.
"Personally I'd still rather have BAE around." Not if he still has that "too cool for school" nonsense that led to the petty fines etc. A BAE who will just tow the line and get on with it on-pitch is what the squad needs.
We all said throughout the window that we needed another left back and I think that was the one weakness in our squad after the transfer window. Unfortunately this has been exposed with Rose missing our last 3 league games and it simply hasn't worked playing Naughton there. I'm not trying to say this had anything to do with yesterday's loss or that because we're strong in other positions it doesn't mean we won't struggle from time to time in those areas. I just feel that it weakens us more with Kaboul not fully fit and Vertonghen not being great there anyway and Naughton alongside Sigurdsson(or Chadli), is especially poor. If we are going to play Naughton there I think we have to play Townsend as an orthodox winger in front of him as it would allow Naughton to stay deep and not go out of his comfort zone(which is as dangerous for us as anyone else). I think the fact that AVB keeps playing Fryers at left back in the Europa League suggests that AVB wants to try and get him up to speed so we don't end up always shifting Naughton out there, especially as(like yesterday showed) it leaves us with no backup for Walker. It's annoying when it feels like the only area where we couldn't afford an injury and it happens but I think AVB's handling of it was poor too. Incase he'd forgotten last season there was a huge warning with Naughton's performance against Cardiff, he shouldn't have played him there from that game onwards. I'm not sure who should have played there but it definitely shouldn't have been Naughton!
we were unlucky with rose. he was looking quality before his injury. it could just have easily have been benny injured as rose.
Imo he shouldn't have played though. I can understand us wanting to win the Europa league, but I don't see the need to be fielding such strong teams at this stage of the comp. When you look at our first team at the moment, very few of our players have even been here for more than a year! it's absolutely crazy. You cannot expect that many new players to fit and play to the best of their abilities straight away. If we had bought Ozil, you can bet your life he wouldn't be playing like he is because he playing in a settled side atm. Top 4 will be a big achievement this year, looking at the way we are struggling. We are changing our style of play too, and also buying all our players from abroad. This needs to be factored in.
I think we've got little chance of top 4 this season. For me Chelsea, city and arsenal are shoo ins, and I can't see us beating man united and Liverpool, not unless they get injuries to key players. I thought we had a good chance of coming above man united, but they've got lucky with this kid coming through. I can't see how they won't do well with him, rooney and rvp, as well as having the likes of carrick etc.
I watched bits of it. He made the difference for sure; they wouldn't have won without him. He is real quality.
Compared to the rest of their team, yes. They looked really poor and Sunderland looked like the side who were going to score the next goal, then he got one and they fell apart. John O'Shea was utter ****e, though. Nodded the ball on for him and then chickened out of getting hit by the shot. Useless. As for the left-back role, either Rose plays, we give Fryers a shot, Vertonghen shifts out of the centre or we change the system. Naughton can't do the job he's required to do when we're set up like we have been. I can't say how pissed off I was when I saw him getting subbed off yesterday, though. Awful decision.
**** knows, why sign Lamela for £30million and then play Sigurdsson and Townsend on the wings. Also why sign Soldado and then decide Defoe is worthy of starting becuase he has scored against Tbilisi, Tromso, Villa B and Anzhi. And then if the team is being decided on form, why not start Holtby? Why isn't Sandro playing? AvB got it very wrong yesterday, just hope he learns from it.
I think that Lamela's being given the Lloris treatment from last season and it seems to have worked ok with him. The Argentinian looks a little off the pace in the games that he has been given, though I agree that he needs to play if we've got a right footer at left-back. Sandro still doesn't look fully fit, to me. He's nearly there and when he is I think we'll see him or Capoue paired with Dembele or Paulinho, with the two that are left out playing in the cups. The balance isn't quite right with the current two.
