I know it's just crazy thinking this, but look at the odds the Mercs have, both 66/1 for a track which should suit their straight line speed even more so than the McLarens. It could turn out to be another Spa 09, force india style. ã1 on both, because what's ã2 nowadays eh?
ã2, About a litre of fuel in a week or too I'm going to say that I'd doubt the Mercedes even get on the podium, but my predictions are mostly wrong so your probably in luck
Well there's, smart betting and there's hopeful betting. Betting on Lewis to win spa last year was a smart bet knowing the kemmel straight would play to his advantage and in the end was a good bet. Betting on both Schumi and Nico would be a hopeful bet now since the car is 5th best on the grid at the moment, nearly 6th considering sauber and force india. I'm just gobsmacked at how long it's taking Mercedes to actually sort out all the problems in that thing, considering they were focusing more effort into 2011 than the other teams earlier on. It's just a matter of time I feel until you place a bet on a Mercedes to win with stupid high odds and you make a killing on it, knowing my luck i'll miss it and never get the chance again lol.
Jenson was on fresh primes on his final fun and under no pressure from anyone. He also had less laps to do on that set than Lewis, who was on used primes and defending hard against Webber and Alonso. I still dont buy into this notion that Jenson is better on tyres than Lewis. We will see that in China. But he is a good bet though if you want a decent return.
@matt Sorry meant primes, still getting used to those damn colours lol. But whose fault is that though? Since Jenson as you say was able to have a fresh set of primes for race day. Lewis also wrecked his 2nd stint options in qualifying which he was meant to use for race day, that didn't really help him either. Whitmarsh: "Equally, we weren't able to give him a second stint on option tyres today because they'd been damaged in qualifying yesterday" I'm not saying he's crap at tyre management, just that he doesn't do himself any favours etc...
I agree, the more pit stops you have to make during a race, the more you cannot afford to flat spot tyres in qualifying. This didnt matter much in Australia because it was only a 2 stop race. I think after Malaysia though he has learned from it.
I heard the 2nd set of primes were used and put on by mistake. Lewis' pace on his third set of primes seemed much better. Just a bad day at the office. It wasn't a tire wear problem in the race as he was slow on the 2nd set of primes the instant he left the pits. He did slightly screw himself over by flat spotting a set of options in qualy.
So McLaren put the wrong tyres on? Wow thats a very silly mistake to make for a big team. Not even Hispania have made that kind of mistake
Button drove the furthest ever on his last set of tyres - 19 laps and the lap times were still impressive at the end. The radio remark was to make sure he was aware of tyres falling apart at that distance. I didn't get to see them in parc ferme- anyone else notice?
They would've looked like **** because they go around picking up marbles and debris to increase the car's weight.
BLS I'd go with your post, agreed on all points. As for a thrilling season, I think it's starting...I'd have easily 5 starred this on 606,
