Though biological racism was less prominent in Fascism than National Socialism, right from the start there was a strong racist undercurrent to the spazio vitale concept, in which Mussolini asserted there was a “natural law” for stronger peoples to subject and dominate “inferior” peoples such as the “barbaric” Slavic peoples of Yugoslavia as Mussolini claimed in a September 1920 speech. [62] In the same way, Mussolini argued that Italy was right to follow an imperalist policy in Africa because all black people were "inferior" to whites. [62] Mussolini claimed that the world was divided into a hierarchy of races (stirpe), through this was justified more on cultural than on biological grounds, and that history was nothing more than a Darwinian struggle for power and territory between various "racial masses"
Which bit is âbullâ? Merely stating âI donât know if Di Canio is of the same mind of the Italian Fascism of the early C20â? Thatâs mere statement of fact on my part, as it should be on any who doesnât know him. Your quote about âstandardisationâ ergo it thereby follows that Di Canio subscribes to all Mussolini style Italian fascist ideology (including your cut and pasted selection of someoneâs interpretation from what looks like Wiki) is a heinous strawman. For all I know you might be right about Di Canioâs views, but I rather suspect what you actually âknowâ what he thinks is nothing more than speculation. At least you only want anyone who you suspect of not subscribing to your views just to be denied the ITFC job, rather than banning from any job, or indeed from having any liberty. That would take us back to my original point about MacCarthyism, thoughtcrime, Maoâs China denoucement sessionsâ¦
Well if you're ignorant to it all then that's fair enough, but then why get involved in the debate? There is no 'I think Di Canio thinks this' about it. He is a self-proclaimed fascist, he believes in Roman Supremacy.
Erm, isn't fascism based around the idea that one group of people is better than another group of people, because of where they live? Sounds a lot like football. In Italy, there is an ethical hangover from the Mussolini era, because a great number of Italians believe that he changed things for the better in Italy - he just got mixed up with the wrong crowd in the late 1930s. I was in a caffé in Sicily about 10 years ago and his picture was in pride of place above the bar (and it wasn't upside-down). Italy is a nation of proud history, strong national identity and rich culture. This will always give rise to a large fascist element, which is simply the extreme (or more usually poorly educated) end of the proud nationalistic wedge. What Di Canio did wouldn't make the papers in the Mezzogiorno (agricultural south) of Italy. As long as he's not advocating race-war he'll be left alone. Do that in Berlin though and you can be locked up. I saw a man arrested simply for wearing a Nazi jacket on Kurfurtstendamstrasse in 2004. A straight arm salute is a criminal offence in Germany. BTW, why is this still a sticky?
