I think the pitch in Colombo will be a turner and Sri Lanka will be looking to Murili to bowl England out. My England XI would be Strauss Trott Bell Morgan Collingwood Wright Prior Bresnan Tredwell Swann Anderson Batting all the way down to No. 10 I prefer Prior down the order as opposed to opening. Seam from Anderson, Bresnen and Wright Spin from Swann and Tredwell Medium Pace or Off-Breaks from Collingwood dependent on the conditions What do you think? What team would you pick?
Personally think the vital thing about tomorrow will be the toss, if we win it have to bat first, don't think the wicket will get better during the game but rain is also forecast, so the dreaded D/L could come into play
1.Strauss 2.Bell 3.Trott 4.Collingwood 5.Morgan 6.Bopara 7.Prior 8.Bresnan 9.Is Broad Fit? 10.Tredwell 11.Anderson
Strauss Trott Bell Bopara Collingwood Prior Rashid Bresnan Swann Tredwell Tremlett Batting down to 10, 3 solid players...big hitter...solid...big hitter...all rounders...tail. Plenty of bowling options, 3 spinners and two medium pacers to keep the run rate down. Anderson had to be dropped due to poor form. I believe that it's wrong to keep picking a player and hence rewarding them when their form goes.
Joey, Broad has gone home injured and stopmeandslapme, that is a VERY long tail. Strauss - obvious selection. Bopara - give him another chance at opening, could work out, he is very capable of building an innings. Trott - obvious selection. Bell - obvious selection. Morgan - looked good vs Bangladesh, gotta be worth playing. Wright - England's best batsman vs Windies, and a useful seam option. Prior - not in great nick, but only specialist keeper in the squad. Bresnan - obvious selection. Swann - obvious selection. Tredwell - Rashid probably will be arriving late, and he impressed vs West Indies, spin is key this world cup. Anderson - Deserves another chance, especially seeing as Tremlett hasn't impressed much.
One longer than yours yet one of your "batsmen" is of the slog and hope variety and not English to boot. I fear that could cost us (we English) the World Cup.
