If GC does leave who would you like as his replacement My choices would be from Lee Mansell Duncan Ferguson John Terry Gary Cahill Any of those in that order no one with clubs than Tiger Woods
No way Ferguson or Terry will join us. Cahill is still playing in the Prem for Palace. He wouldn't leave them on a good wage to drop down to us. I wouldn't mind assistant manager Dunne to take over until the end of the season with support from Mansell and Hargreaves. The squad know them and what they are about. We will need consistency within the normal day to day running. So training and tactics etc as its currently working. Then we got all summer to get someone in. But if we are to bring in someone now who is not already at the club, I like the Accrington manager John Coleman or Scunthorpe's Paul Hurst. Both could do a good job I feel with us. Both knows how to work on a tight budget and still bring in hard working players who fight for their club.
I am concerned that if GC goes his backroom staff might go with him, I know the three above are involved but Rovers could be a good starting point for them. I can see Dunne and the GK coach joining him at his new club if the offer comes to fruition for GC. Just hope that somebody on the board will engage brain and realise we have a seriously good manager who is working miracles with a small injury hit squad or the term Merry Christmas might as far as the Gas go it might only be what comes out of the bottle
Higher profile managers who may be looking for a challenge who are out of work right now... Martin O'Niell Alan Curbishly Tony Pulis Neil Warnock Paul Clement Nigel Adkins Billy Davies Steve McClaren Brian McDermott Ian Holloway Some I doubt we could afford and some will want major funds to use. But I think most would like us being 4th.
Hi CJS - Is that because he's ex-City? ..... or his style of football? I have to admit that when he came to us I was skeptical about how his teams played - but the season we went up was the best football I have seen at Ashton Gate
His style and what he said about Rovers. Trust me, his appointment would not go down well at all in BS7 Whether he managed City or not doesn't matter to me to be honest. I am sure some gasheads will view that differently.
CLUB STATEMENT: The Club can confirm that it has reluctantly given permission for Manager Graham Coughlan to speak to Mansfield Town about the vacant position at the One Call Stadium. Two approaches were made last week by the Sky Bet League Two side requesting permission to speak with Graham Coughlan about the manager's position, both were rejected by the club. However, it became apparent that the interest from Mansfield was significant and due to the fact that Graham had been working away from his family home in Sheffield for the last decade, it was evident that he would welcome the opportunity to work closer to his family and we therefore reluctantly granted permission to Mansfield to discuss terms. Joe Dunne led training this morning to prepare the squad for Tuesday's Emirates FA Cup replay at Home Park and he will continue to be assisted by Kevin Maher, Adrian Tucker and Lee Mansell. https://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2019/december/graham-coughlan-statement/
Well he would be daft to follow and assist GC to the foot of L2 just because GC wants to be closer to his family. Dunne would have a top 4 L1 side instead to manage.
GC said in a interview that he was shocked and angry when sacked by Southend and criticised them for lack of loyalty. He went on to say he was grateful for the opportunity at Rovers. Works both ways GC.
JCH will probably be gone in January { Leeds United ? } and if the funds from that sale aren't forthcoming to bolster / replace team numbers { as we all know they wont be } then this may have had an influence on GC's somewhat rattle out of the pram interview last Saturday tea time.
For anyone who likes a flutter : Paul Tisdale: 7/4 Steve Cotterill: 3/1 Ian Holloway: 4/1 Nathan Jones: 4/1 Michael Flynn: 9/2 Michael Duff: 6/1 Lee Mansell: 8/1 Harry Kewell: 10/1 Kevin Nolan: 10/1 Nigel Adkins: 16/1 Chris Hargreaves: 18/1 Lee Clark: 20/1 Shaun Derry: 20/1 Carl Fletcher: 25/1
Martyn Starnes has today spoken to BBC Points West... On GC to Mansfield: “First contact made last Wednesday. Graham Coughlan was told. Saturday morning Mansfield asked again. I spoke to Graham and his agent after the game and agreed he could speak to them. He’s now officially departed from us and we expect him to be confirmed at Mansfield later today.” On JCH: “Every player has a value. If an offer came in we’d have to consider whether it’s in the best interests of the club.” On getting a new manager: "We are already on the road to looking at a replacement manager. Myself, Wael Al Qadi and Tommy Widdrington will conduct the interviews this week. Ideally I’d like to make an appointment by the weekend but I think that’s unlikely."
Holloway on Quest at the weekend... Have a listen. He is right. The win against Ipswich should have been about Rovers. Should have been about the great win for the club and for our fans. But GC instead immediately made it about him. Such a lack of class from GC towards the club who gave him a chance. Onwards and upwards.
