I wouldn't actually want Simpson and Santon moved on. They are both young 1st team players. Simpson isn't letting us down and now we have young Haidara pecking at Santon's berth, there is genuine competition for our left-back place - which is ideal.

I would add Gutierrez to the list mind - as an attacking player, he is sadly lacking at this level. Sorry.

I agree, no way I'd want Santon moved on. I am his biggest critic and biggest fan. I think there is fantastic potential in him, but his defending has been woeful since November. But he is young enough and talented enough to turn it around.

I'd love to keep Simpson, he is a good servant and as shown in the recent Europa games, dependable and excellent defensively. Good back up. Unfortunately no hope of him staying to sit and watch given the stage he's at in his career.

I'd disagree on Jonas though. Excellent squad player. He has never been the best attacking wide player, but he is still one of the best defensive wide players in the PL. There are games whether we like it or not, when we'll play stronger teams or teams that put us under a certain kind of physical pressure. Yesterday was a good example. He had a cracking game yesterday, his defensive work and tracking back was first class. Pards knew what he was in for with Stoke. I wouldn't start Jonas a lot fo the time but there is still value in him with a squad system. Gouf and HBA are our attacking options wide, but when we need genuine work ethic in those areas, Jonas is better than both. My concern is Colo's departure in the summer will see him go, and then we won't realise what we have until it is gone. I think you need to cover all bases. Jonas as a defensive winger or in a counter attack style against better opposition still meets the need for me.

ACP has summed up my feelings nicely about Santon, I too am both a fan and a critic, I do have a feeling that he may end up as a winger, but that's just my thoughts.
I felt after yesterdays game, Jonas would leave in the summer when Colo leaves, after Cisses goal, there were two groups on the pitch celebrating, Jonas just stood on his own near the half way line, it just made me think he'll go.

    Don't think Colo will go.

Whatever his crisis is, he'll have been able to live with it for 6 months while playing for Newcastle. When the choice comes of living with it for a couple more years or knocking a zero off his paycheque, he may just find that the crisis isn't quite as critical as it seemed back in January.

    I kinda agree...
Time should heal his wounds, and then he would start to think about whether it's worth it to knock off the zero off his paycheque when the season is over. Then he would probably realised he has already survived half a season with whatever problems it was and he could go on.
