Fergie was very good at picking the right players for the right games, particularly towards the end, when football became more about the squad than just the first 11. He would use different players who had different strengths to target the weaknesses of opponents, particularly in the big games. You think how many times he would surprisingly select Ji Sung Park in a big game, when he'd not had a look in for weeks, and he'd prove to be the man of the match. He also used to use Giggs and Scholes at the right times, when they couldn't play every week.

His last game where he showed how tactically smart he was, was the Real Madrid game last year, when he surprisingly dropped Rooney, and used Welbeck to stop Xabi Alonso dictating play, and played Giggs on the right to stop Ronaldo. On paper Real where a far better side than us, and we had the tie by the bollocks before Nani's joke of a red card at Old Trafford.

This is the reason Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are so poor in big games, because he doesn't try to out smart the opposition with well thought out tactics, he just plays the same way against every opponent, which makes them far to predictable and easy to play against

tbh not sure which one is better, playing as underdogs or avoiding those big teams
we seem to play worst when we are favorite , remember Europa league 2 seasons ago or even our struggle facing weaker sides such as Basel or even in this year cup competitions..
i prefer Dortmund, sound a saver bet

I think Barcelona would be the worst possible draw. I don't actually think they are the strongest team, as I think Real and Bayern are stronger, but I think we will struggle more with Barcelona's style of play than we would do against anyone else. I think our defence could cope better with a more physical team rather than a quick tiki taka passing team

beside it is a cup match .. cup is a cup .. there is no big or small side .. so don't be so cocky
