We are still one of only 20 PL clubs and we can afford to pay decent money. Our problem is and has always been that we want good players...our style (up till now) has been to buy young...unlike QPR and WHU, we don't normally go for aged but experienced players. We don't buy the usual suspects swilling around on the fringes of PL clubs.
But with the quality players we have leaving as quickly as they can what is going to be left? A certainty for relegation. Not an attractive prospect for any player to come to saints
Rubbish. We wont go down. 3 or 4 quality signings and we will be fine. Players will want to play for Ron.
I don't think anyone can say with any certainty that we go down or we will stay up until the transfer window closes.
Yes! You join a club that is in the top flight but appears in turmoil and everyone seems to predict will get relegated. You get a good salary and you are in a no lose situation. The club does poorly then everyone expected of and blames the turmoil; the club does well and you are a hero. Where do I sign?
Don't know how long you've been doing it, but welcome to being a Saints fan.... It's never a cake walk
Or, more likely, not until Sunday 24 May 2015, when we visit the Etihad to nick the title from under their noses. Mind you, if that were to happen I suppose we would have been safe for a while before, so let's say around February instead.
All jokes apart, how funny would it be to see Jose Fonte lift the FA Cup in may while Lovren, Lallana et al watch on TV while packing their suit cases for the summer having booked their holiday a month earlier, season over? In all this madness, a nice quiet thought.
Actually feel a bit sorry for Jose, if I can feel sorry for any footballer these days. He's always come across as the most committed of individual players to the club's cause. Now he sees the exodus of many of his friends and colleagues, and I wonder where he fits in with all of this. If he feels there's still an important job and place for him in the new setup then all well and good. I don't suppose it is about money these days, as he's going as much at Southampton as elsewhere. I hope Saints treat him right.
