After such an intense lyrical flow as an opener I thought the Wize [?]red was going to claim he was looking after the light at the of the tunnel. As it was no story for the magazine. Nothing there. Wit wisdom no. Fought people like that, come out swinging, blowing out of their arse ten seconds later.
For the record it won't cost us money, not that much, he is on a 12 month rolling contract remember, which he signed in January.
I could chuck about a Madam, sir, baby, child, but won't. C'mon on you are the MOD top face here. 12000 posts make you the big unit. YOU put up an extreme post, put yourself in a corner and now suck your thumb. who are the groupees and why? Who won? Cover your OWN thread.
Read the first post. How does calling fans "groupees" improve support of the team? Would people prefer it if fans did nothing to prove their point? Does supporting Sean O'driscoll make a fan a groupie? Seriously if Sean O'driscoll fails I have no remedy, because I would still want BCFC to attempt to run the club in a similar manner. So cards on the table I wish him to succeed, accept there will be mistakes on the way. the alternative is more spending. Money which is generally somebody elses [Mr Lansdown], and unsustainable. So support this team I will.
'SOD Groupees' will be rallying to the cause, pounding the bible of football purity and saving SOD's soul.. What interpretation should there for that quote? It has a superior tone to it. It appears at best antagonistic. My behaviour is little different to times under different Managers and trips away were planned before the team's recent results appeared.
Mate, that wasn't directed at you, it was aimed solely at the boo boys who shout abuse at team and manager, also certain people on here who put SOD on some high plateau and suggest losing is okay because he is the font of everything possible (I call them his groupies) and they scream down an alternative point of view, I admire your coaching ethic with young people, applaud your support for the City and respect your point of view..
Why do certain people have to dissect other people's statements down to the granular details ? We all have personal opinions of everything in life, including football, and that is what makes us individuals. Our country's laws also make it possible to express our views. A lot of the stuff posted on here are single sentence sound bites and some are born from moments of frustration. People should view posts as just someone else's opinion. It might not be the same as your own, but that's life, and people shouldn't be asked to explain themselves.
I didn't understand the title! I may put Mr O'driscoll on a plateau as I understand and support his ideas, particularly around how football clubs should be run e.g pathways. I will be very supportive as failure can/will have consequences. I do not feel provision for what should be a community centred game is good enough in Bristol from a very early age, BCFC are improving as a community centred club. Changes are occurring from the bottom up e,g Community trust/academy and the Head coach is part of that. City "could" be on the cusp of something admirable, it will not be based upon months but years of development. Those involved in kids football want to point any good kid towards BCFC and say "there". The fans also want to point towards the club for those who are not so talented and hope they become fans of a club that has clear sense of itself, a defined role, that DNA/way Mr O'driscoll talks off. If Mr O'driscoll fails the consequences could be that yet again the club changes path, BCFC adopt another model and fall behind again. Those consequences can be wider than just the XI. I will remain positive.
I agree with this whole heartedly, whilst I find it difficult to put SOD on 'a plateau' I am choosing to ignore the parts of his personality that grate me slightly, if you find him 'boring' etc, Just don't listen to it. If it annoys you what are you gonna miss?? We cannot keep changing managers every 10 minutes, the fans of this club have spoken out demanding the '5 pillars' philosophy, ie; local kids in a good academy, the removal of overpaid journeymen, football played the right way. You pretty much all asked for the same things to a man on here, it's going to take some time for the transition to happen, surely we are not gonna revert to the calls of "hoof it up front" scenario from the fans, because we have the most impatient set of fans in football. SOD is saying to you I am trying to get them to do things the right way.! they are learning.. be patient. and before you say it, not one genuine fan on here wants or would happily accept relegation. We asked for change, it is in process.. An example of what I mean. Redprintt will tell you he lost faith in the man because he started the season with Kilkenny? Yet fails to give him any praise for the fact that after being given that chance SOD took him out because he clearly wasn't up to it.. what more can the man do? On paper Kilkenny would have appeared to be exactly the type of player the midfield needed to start this transition. He had to try it. He would have been hailed a genius had Kilkenny stepped up to the mark for him.. and bizarrely would have been criticised had he not tried it. (wasted wages, experienced head not used. etc etc) Pack, Kelly, Reid. and the others are good, young, kids with stacks of potential.. it really is time for the fans to get behind them and the manager and support them through this.
First part is very true. People will get behind the manager when he starts to deliver results, but we cannot afford to have another season of struggle and relegation. That simply cannot be allowed to happen, but at the moment that's where we are whether we like it or not. I hate the fact that every Saturday night (and the odd Tuesday) I feel let down and really fed up that yet again my team has failed to win a game of football, often against poor or mediocre opposition. It affects me, and I suspect hundreds if not thousands of others in the same way in their mood and outlook. We might not like to admit it, but we are still going backwards right now. I suspect that most of us want SOD (or anyone!!) to succeed as Manager and just for us to win the odd game and steady the ship, but we just dont appear capable at present and it has all of the hallmarks of previous struggles, most of which ended in failure.
City can afford a season of struggle. Thoughts of relegation, I find silly. BCFC financially itself cannot support a Manager running the club in the manner of Johnson, Coppell, Millen and McInnes. That plug has been pulled. The club has gone backwards [obviously], but it is also having to re-invent itself, and not before time. A club should not exist solely because of the largesse of its owner, and that is what City became between 2008 - 2012. The model now is wholly different. The future should look very different, very very different. The possibility is there of creating a healthy fully functioning club, perhaps even bold and audacious. The Head Coach himself has set a bench mark, he described City as a Championship club, he also said candidly this is how if he was an owner he would run an FC. Abandon that future and here is a reality. City's balance sheet! Concerns were [fact] raised by accountants regarding the viability of Bristol City as a business, a point missed constantly by those who want to hire and fire, buy, buy constantly. How is hire, buy, fire an alternative? It is short sighted, even morally unacceptable, unless we feel carrying huge crippling debs in our own lives is normal. That is where City were. The former under O'driscoll is a clear vision. The boo hoo have nothing, no alternatives, no model, no finances to do different, no answers. The team has potential, I will support that and will put my lot in with the groupees [??] away at Vale and further.
The players are learning another way, they are at the age when as kids (7 and up) the mentality to coaching was very different to what is being taught now, my son is 18 in an academy environment and has also had to deal with this sea change in coaching philosophy (improvement and development) it takes time, imagine what it must be like for a 23 year old used to dinosaur coaching from the 'direct and physical' book of coaching. Some players have to go backwards to go forwards and I think we are seeing that in our players. SOD is aware of this and is trying to protect them from feeling destroyed by it all..(when it doesn't go right it's human nature to revert to what you're used to doing, regardless of whether it works or not.!) I am confident that when the younger players get comfortable with this system you will see massive progress (and hopefully suddenly) We cannot continue down the road we were previously on, it was leading nowhere. None of us are happy with the league position and I think there are still some tweaks possible in the side. Movement beyond the midfield is an issue for me. It will click.. it will fall in to place and we will be in a better place for it.. I have seen it happen myself..
"The former under O'driscoll is a clear vision. The boo hoo have nothing, no alternatives, no model, no finances to do different, no answers" Who can argue with this? I haven't seen one viable, alternative argument from people suggesting SOD should be removed, he came here and said the clubs philosophy was in tandem with his philosophy and set about the task of doing just that.. the way most of you pleaded to go! now we're jumping off after 9 games cos it's not happening fast enough? 9 games ?? .. some of you after 4 or 5 games.!! What has gone before has gone, at the time I didn't think we made anywhere near enough effort to stay in the Championship, but this rebuild is required and was inevitable.. Paulo Di Canio...really???
City are starting to coach kids at six. They have sessions for kids of different abilities, and those who are starting out playing for kids clubs. A word which will be heard from the coaches even amongst the six year olds is "options". It is all about pass and move, find space, it was about kick and boot not so long ago. Above that the club has to have an XI which meets those principles. We as fans surely want to see the above broadened. The c in FC can mean community with a big C, stealing someone else's line there. Bristol City have the opportunity to get less insular, world wise and produce real football players instead of the dark ages and bought in costly athletes, or worse. I find it a simple choice to support.
