    Really? I disagree with that, Cabaye and Gutierrez werent trying to get assists for theirs. Every goal has a scorer, but not all have assisters.

    I disagree with you disagreeing with that! Winning a free kick which directly results in a goal is an assist for me, because they have played a major role in that goal being scored. That goes for Cabaye's shot as well. Without that shot, we don't score. Therefore it is an assist!

    I showed my girlfriend a picture of Cabaye and she said 'he is very fit'. I then showed her Santon and she said he is quite fit but looks too much like a pretty boy. She much preferred Cabaye.

    I can understand Gutierrez inviting fouls, hoping to get a free kick in a dangerous area, so that should count (but often doesnt, by Opta for example). But Cabaye had absolutely no intention of setting up a goal, I think for them to be counted it should be judged as intentional.

    They might have used it, I was going off the Opta definition, which Sky use (and I thought the Premier League site used as well).

    To be fair we didn't score a single goal directly from a free kick last season in the Premiership. All the goals were Gutierrez winning the free kick and then someone crossing it for the free kick with someone else scoring, therefore the crosser gets the assist not Jonas.

    I think Ben Arfa will run Cabaye close for the assists, with him playing slightly further forward.

    If Ben Arfa doesn't suffer another major injury this season (unlikely i know) then i reakon it'll be him with Cabaye coming a close second
